The kid from CN, he is big, strong, athletic, punts the ball for offensive opportunities for his team and was scisa keeper of the year as a sophomore.

Female Keeper from S. Aiken.
Only saw her for one game, but she looked like she did everything right.
Boomer of a punt, good defesive skills and would attack the ball. Knew where to be and knew how to comand her troops.

Daxter Yuronzal from Orangeburg Prep is playing his fourth varsity season as Sweeper-Keeper, playing both goalie and defender at the same time, successively capitalizing on 8 and 1/2 goals. Also, he will continue his soccer career at Jackson Hole Bible college making him the first player in SC history to play College Soccer in Wyoming. He has a knack for not only winning but comraderie. His conviction juxtaposed with raw talent obviously equals greatness. Now I am a little biased(because I am his father, Nash Yuronzal: Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology class of '88, Jefferson Colonial Conference Champs) but I really havent seen a contemporary athlete perform like my son, especially in orangeburg which has produced some serious soccer superstars. I hate to come off rather haughty but i just really love my boy!

Two of the best keepers in the state are Cesa products. Zach Woolever, a Junior (Cesa 92 Premier, Dorman H.S.) and one of the best up and coming keepers Tanner Eggers, a Freshman (Cesa 94 Premier, Byrnes H.S.). Through his odp experience Tanner has been invited to the national camp in the 95 age group as well.

I would have to say that Robert Beebe from Pinewood and Ben Limbaugh from Spring Valley should be considered. Both are great friends and play on the SCUFC 91 squad. just my thoughts, cheers

In his region... That's cute. Let us see how he does against good teams and then we shall re-evaluate his performance.

I think Beebe and Limbaugh have to be considered at the top due to deserved recognition they've received. Even though Irmo beat SV with relative ease Limbaugh was the sole reason Irmo didn't reach double digit goals. He produced a number of goal line saves and proved why he is so highly touted.

On that same note I think Irmo's starting keeper Rob Sullivan should also be considered among the elite keepers in the state. His club team (although he splits time) is at the top of the region in the Academy league and while in goal for Irmo he has proved to be a vital asset to their defense. Unlike the other two keepers Sullivan is just a junior with another year to grow and develop.

To be correct Sullivan was out a large portion of the club season with an injury. Split time? He played in seven games while Zack Shamah the sophmore keeper from Socastee played in 23 games. Split time? I guess technically - but by the time he came back the Academy region had all but been decided.

So if we are looking at Academy region results the question becomes - where does that put Shamah on the list of best goalies in the state? and he is just a sophmore with two years to grow.

To me it is unfair to say a goalie from a "gifted" team is good JUST because he plays for that team. Personally, some of the best keepers I have seen over the years play for average teams but their goals against average may not be great because they are under a lot more pressure.

I think that keeper from North Myrtle was pretty darn good. I'll have to check the roster to get his name.

That save he made on us in the second half was world class. My kid fired a bullet through traffic and Kyle got a hand on it and knocked it wide. He had to have been shielded and still was able to react quick enough to make that save. That was top notch. Congrats on winning the tournament! You guys played well and we enjoyed playing and watching you.

GK is a tough position to evaluate. It's probably the most technically demanding position. Keepers with poor technique will be found out over the long haul. Much of what separates the excellent ones from the average ones is rather mundane, but crucial. Proper positioning allows for easy saves that improper positioning turns into spectacular saves - or goals. Good communication can keep shots from ever being taken. The bottom line for a GK is to make the saves he should make, and once in a while make some that he probably shouldn't.

It's a helluva position for a kid to play - and the worst for a kid's parent!

You make a very good point, but I also think that playing keeper for a great team can also hurt you're credibility and even cause you to be overlooked at times because everyone wants to attribute it to the talent around you. As for the club thing, having watched a significant number of that teams games I felt that Sullivan was a better keeper but the injury along with the nature of the academy league may just lend itself better to keepers splitting games, but hey thats solely my opinion.

I just believe that more times than not the John Wall's of the world become 1st team all americans while the Devan Downey's get honorable metions.

No one will ever convince me that if Downey was wearing Kentucky, Duke or North Carolina Blue instead of Gamecock Garnett that he wouldn't be 1st team all american at this point.

Same with Spiller - if he was wearing Florida instead of Clemson Orange he would have at least been at the Heisman table.

GK

It's a helluva position for a kid to play - and the worst for a kid's parent!

oh contraire my friend.
From the minute his club coach put my son in the net ( the regular keeper was hurt) and he stopped a PK, my life has changed :-)
That was about 6 years ago and I've loved every minute of it (well maybe not the concussion and the drilling we took from NW 3 years ago, but everything else).
I even love the PK shoot outs. Yup, I’m nervous as heck and pacing the line, but what could be better than mono e mono (Brings back my wrestling memories).

There have been some highs and some lows, however after all is said and done, I would like to thank Will, Kevin and David for probable the best 6 years of my life

Hewho- probably should have said "most stressful" rather than "worst."

Shrink - Limbaugh to Wofford and Arneson to N Greenville are the only seniors that I know of. Beebe is committed to U South Carolina. That's it for GK's to my knowledge

Keep an eye on Raad Wullner from Irmo (one of two keepers double-rostered JV & Varsity). Irmo has 6 keepers, Arneson(Sr) and Sullivan (Jr) on Varsity, Hibshman (Jr) and Wullner (So) JV/Varsity, and Lazaro(Jr) and Mills (7th) JV. Though seeing little playing time with Varsity, Wullner is a quality keeper. He played with the CUFC 93 Elite for 6 years, the last 2 in premier league. He was instrumental in that teams win 3 years ago, stopping a rocket from a bridge player to propel CUFC on to win state that year. He was a developmental player with SC United this past year, is the keeper for the 93 ODP team and was a keeper in 4 matches against DIV 2 and 3 teams in the CESA CAP program this spring.

Anyone know anything about Alex Young who shares the keeper pos. with Zack Woolever on CESA Premier 92. He had an assist in a match on Friday in the blue chip tourney. How is his shot stopping?

Tanner Eggers, Bynes ('94 CESA Premier) is U-15 National Team keeper.
Joseph Wichmann, Wando ('94 MPSC Premier) Region III U-15 keeper.
Both have proven to gain recognition at state, region, national - even internaitonal level. Not too shabby at such a young age.

Tanner is a great keeper and a good kid, I feel bad for him playing on a 1-15 HS team. I wonder if a position player on the national team would play on a 1-15 HS team.

Maybe because the bowling team is 15-1?

Nah seriosuly - If he can keep from letting it get in his head sounds like a great team for a keeper to get plenty of "practice" with. Also, might not be the best stats for him to put on his soccer resume - but if he's playing at that level of club ball most coaches will see through that.

You cannot be serious Belli. How many players of Tanners ability would play on a 1-15 club team ? Let me help you with the answer ZERO.
Does prove one thing, even a player with Tanners abilities is just an average keeper with out the support of a solid defense.

Folks for the record Tanner E. is a great young man, with amazing abilities. Lets also keep in sight that he is just a Freshman. The Byrnes team has been in many games because of him. He will only continue to grow and mature with time.
