I thought I would go and really look to see who was #1 in the poll. Turns out it was Heritage from Georgia. OK, now get this, they have one tie and no losses. Their tie was to Walton of Georgia....whom Irmo beat. So does this make Irmo better than the supposed #1? I really don't believe in most of those polls anyways, most of the high calibur teams can beat each other on any given night, but it is a little crazy the way that they do it. Kyle, can you expalin how these polls work? Thanks.

Talk about an "inexact science" ... I don't envy the person(s) responsible for the national rankings one bit -- heck, it's hard enough to get one classification of a state correct! Don't be too worried about National and Regional rankings -- they usually sort out just about right by the time the final polls are released ... However, listed below is what I submitted on Sunday to Kevin Denson, the NSCAA Representative for our area ... Feel free to talk about my submission, because I don't have to send in the "final poll" until mid-June: quote: Kevin Denson -
Here are the boys rankings from South Carolina ... Thank you!
S.C. BOYS RANKINGS (5/18/03)
1) Irmo (21-3-0), Columbia, SC -- 4A State Champions, edged 4A Runner-Up Northwestern 1-0 (PK Shootout)
2) Northwestern (23-2-0), Rock Hill, SC -- 4A Upper State Champions, 21-game winning streak snapped by Irmo
3) Wando (23-1-0), Mount Pleasant, SC -- 4A Semifinalists, 32-game winning streak dating to last year snapped by Irmo in Lower State Championship
4) D.W. Daniel (15-2-0), Central, SC -- 3A State Champions, scored four goals in final 20 minutes to defeat Myrtle Beach 4-1 in State Finals
5) Chapin (19-4-0), Chapin, SC -- 2A State Champions, edged 2A Runner-Up Bishop England 4-3 (PK Shootout)
Thanks!
