Why have the first round in AAA? Only three games of 16 were decided by 2 goals or less! Some absolute routs!
UPPER 9-0, 8-0, 7-0, 7-0, 4-0, 3-0, 4-2, 3-1
LOWER 13-0, 13-0, 11-0, 11-0, 11-1, 9-0, 9-0, 2-0
Anyone know why this is done? Why not just eliminate the #4 seed and have it where the #1 seed from each region gets a bye and play the #2/#3 winner in the next round?

When the seagulls follow the trawler, it's because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea.

It's not just the #1 v #4 that are one-sided. The #2 v #3 games had an average margin of over 7 goals. Three of those were won by the #3 seed by an average of over 5 goals. Also, two #1 seeds lost, one by 10 goals. So eliminating the #4 seed won't work.

How about give the #4 seed an option to bow out without a penalty/fine with the agreement of the #1 seed? Or defer to the #5 seed with the same option to bow out?
I am not sure how the #1 seed coaches view these games or if the #4 coaches and players would still like to play even if it is a rout. I imagine there are varying opinions and those opinions change year to year based on the makeup of the team. Do you take away an opportunity for a senior to play one more time?
Berkeley always shows up at the Wando games with a good attitude and has goals for their own victories. I especially like the one where they time how long they can go without being scored on. I don't see Berkeley opting out.

Wouldn't be fair to eliminate the #4. There are some regions where the #5 is better than other region's #2 or #1. Need to allow teams to move up or down a division to equal out play and go to geographical conferences. But it will never happen.

Not a chance...now we just need to win our way in! (Only fourth-seed 4A girls' team in SC to NOT go to the playoffs...thank you SCHSL organizational skills!) But yes--the years we've gone we were proud to be there and came to play no matter the odds. Nobody "opting out" 'round here.
I've got good news and bad news...

How about the #1 seeds who lose by double-digit margins? (#1-Camden 1-11 #4-Airport)

I agree it will probably never happen but I guess we can always dream: http://www.scsoccer.com/forum/showflat.p...true#Post134068

I have lurked on this board for years but never felt the need to comment until now. If you look at the Regions, the following occurred on Monday night:
Upper State
Region 1 - 0 wins Region 2 - 4 wins Region 3 - 2 wins Region 4 - 2 wins
Lower State
Region 5 - 4 wins Region 6 - 0 wins Region 7 - 3 wins Region 8 - 1 win
Would it be fair to "punish" the 4th seed team of Region 2 and Region 5 because other Regions 4th seed teams are not as skilled? Region 2 and Region 5 are probably the two toughest regions top to bottom and the 4th seed teams in those regions deserve to make playoffs.

I know the die-hard soccer traditionalists don't understand this...but even the teams that get by big margins in the playoffs deserve teh chance to compete! This isn't Europe or the professional ranks so having a system where schools can move up and down is not the answer! It is high school athletics and all schools should have a chance to compete-not just the ones that so called "soccer experts" think have a chance to win in the postseason! Yes, there were some very lopsided games last night, but that is usually the case in the first round of other SCHSL playoffs (football, basketball, wrestling, volleyball, ect) I am willing to bet that some of the schools that got beat last night had a bad game, had players injured, or just wern't mentally prepared and therefore lost..Maybe they are capable of much more, but for whatever reason it just didn't workout that way for them! Bottom line is you never know what is going to happen, that's why you play the game! How many of you had Butler in the NCAA b-ball final four in your office bracket pool this year? How many people believed that tiny Hickory High would win the Indiana State b-ball championship in Hoosiers???
