Believe he was only making right at $60,000 so I have a hard time believing CofC will be able to afford a women's soccer coach with D1 experience for less than that total. Maybe the Cougars will have an "interim" coach this fall.

First of all Dempsey was making mid 40's at CofC.....second of all the LSU position pays around 65-70 thousand for the assistant job, a job that may lead KD to a much bigger program. It was a no brainer for him to leave.
Who will take over: 1. The assistant MB will be the first choice 2. JD from anderson is a grad and a Lundy favorite 3. Promote the men's assistant
Everyone else is an outsider, but I see these people 1. KM from Newberry 2. The assistant coach from Temple, who had worked there in past. 3. GB from South Carolina State 4. CA from Lander
That is my two cents

I had not heard about this until dinner tonight. Very interesting! According to the salary chart below, however, Kevin Dempsey did make in the upper 50s:
WOMEN $98,525 - Shelley Smith, South Carolina $75,750 - Hershey Strosberg, Clemson $58,085 - Tammy DeCesare, Coastal Carolina $57,191 - Kevin Dempsey, Charleston $50,500 - Glad Bugariu, S.C. State $50,000 - Spencer Smith, Winthrop $47,303 - Bob Winch, The Citadel $47,142 - Renee Lopez, USC Upstate $43,436 - Chris Ayer, Lander $40,800 - Joel Person, Francis Marion

Wow, surprising news this late. Looking back in past history, CofC was bad before Dempsey took over....he seems to have made them very consistent. At this level, Asst. Coach deserves a solid chance to be Head Coach. If not, the candidates should be better then the ones mentioned and shouldn't be a "Lundy favorite." How about this? LSU is a Top 20 program, with tremendous resources, that is taking the next step with recruits AND coaching. Maybe that shows the difference between support (LSU) and lack of support (CofC)? I'm sure his paychecks will be nicer.....SEC takes care of folks. Also, at one point CofC was 3-4 scholarships below NCAA max.....that's tough to compete year in and year out.

7/20/10 Dempsey joins women's soccer staffLSU head coach Brian Lee hired former College of Charleston head coach Kevin Dempsey as an assistant to complete the Tigers’ coaching staff for the 2010 season.Dempsey takes over the position left opened when Daniel Brizard was appointed the head coach of the women’s program at Tennessee Tech University in June. Dempsey joins the LSU program following an outstanding nine-year stint at the College of Charleston, where he led the Cougars to a 99-78-22 overall record and a 54-32-8 mark in Southern Conference play since 2001. He will team with Lee and associate head coach Debbie Hensley.

Wow, you mean CofC hired someone with Men's Soccer connections? Shocker. Reading his bio, I hope he plays for the team. An Assistant Coach from two programs that weren't too successful is the best the AD could do for that job? Oh wait, the AD deferred the hire to the Jedi Master of Charleston. Think Yoda will cast his spell on young Luke?

Kick,
I don't know how you can state that a team ranked in the top 20 is an unsuccessful program! It is obvious you know nothing about the Illini team last year.
Being an Illini alum I did follow the team last year with interest.

I didn't know a 7-9-2 team, 2-6-2 in Big 10, was in the Top 20. And based on the 2010 polls, I don't see them listed. In his two years at Illinois, they were 19-18-5, 7-11-2 in Big 10.

Started year strong and was ranked. Played some pretty tough teams (ie. UCLA, Portland).
Can't say: "earning a berth in six consecutive NCAA Tournaments from 2003-08" is an unsuccessful program.
If he can't recruit, doesn't really matter where he came from.

I wish him the best at CofC...having a relationship with Lundy should help. However, he had nothing to do with the previous success at Illinois from '03-'08. He's getting a CofC program that's in great shape....light years ahead from when Dempsey took over. I guess time will tell and hope it works for him.

Kick, so do I. Am happy that it seems on men's side the SC boys are getting better looks by the in-state schools. Not really up to speed on women's side but have been disappointed in the past at Winthrops recruiting. Don't know if that has changed with the ex-Radford coach. SC soccer is getting much better every year. Time will tell.
