Hoover's Regions Park wins bid for NCAA men's soccer final four

Hoover's Regions Park will be home to the NCAA Men's College Cup, the "Final Four" in collegiate soccer, officials will announce today.

Hoover beat cities in New Mexico, North Carolina and Georgia to win the event and officials hope to parlay the win into the 2012 and 2013 Final Four for both men's and women's soccer.

The event will take place Dec. 9 and Dec. 11, 2011, according to Gene Hallman, head of the Bruno Event Team and the Alabama Sports Foundation. Hallman said it is the first time Alabama has ever hosted the event.

Regions Park, which is already converted from a baseball field for the Birmingham Barons to a football field for the Hoover High School Buccaneers, will be converted to an even larger soccer field to allow for the championship matches.

"It will be configured similar to the football configuration for Hoover football," Hallman said. "We will just make a seamless shift from football into soccer."
