Is there or should there be a temperature index in which youth club soccer should not have games? I know they add additional water breaks but if the heat index is over 100 degrees, should teenagers be out on the field? What risks are the clubs taking on if a player dies of heat exhaustion?

Buck up! Common sense will tell you whether or not to play a game if it's "too hot".

Since when do they have any common sense. During State Cup playoffs for 2009, my sons team was playing the CESA premier team during the week. Their coach wanted to get it done. Before the game even started we heard thunder. They (refs and coaches) did nothing until lighting struck very, very close. People couldn't get to their cars fast enough.

I'll add that high school football has measurements for when they stop practice. Pretty sure it's a high school leagur rule. No if, ands or buts.

Just remember that in HS football you have on a Helmet, shoulder pads, griddle, knee length pants and soft pads. Very hard for heat to escape. That is why there are rules in place. Also I can't recall anyone dropping dead at soccer practice due to heat. Happens every year in Football, and those kids are mostly bigger kids with who are out of shape. Lots of water and breaks are the key and most teams have plenty of subs.

Coach J,

I can understand it getting hot when players are wearing "griddles".
