Olympic Development Program Committee

A major goal of the South Carolina Youth Soccer (SCYS) Board of Directors (BOD) is to give you, our members, a greater say in the direction of your programs! As such, on Sunday, October 24, the SCYS BOD voted on, and approved, the Olympic Development Program (ODP) Committee. The ODP Committee has been charged with evaluating the present ODP structure with the goal of ensuring the program continues to provide valuable playing opportunities to our youth at the elite level.
The SCYS BOD are excited about the make-up of the committee and believe the collective soccer expertise will have an immediate impact on the ODP. The ODP Committee is made up of the following individuals:

Tripp Miller (Chair Person) – SCUFC Director of Soccer
Andrew Hyslop – CESA Co-Executive Director
Kian Brownlee – SCU-MP Director of Coaching
Ginio Volpe – President Long Bay Soccer Club
Niel Welborn – President, Discoveries Soccer Club
Justin Collett – Carolina FC Executive Director
Ralph Lundy – Head Coach College of Charleston
Van Taylor – SCYS Director of Coaching Development & Player Education
Allen Bishop – SCYS ODP Administrator

Keep an eye on your email as the Committee will be sending out a detailed email next week regarding the upcoming ODP Tryouts.

Who picks this group? It says SCYS BOD. Who is that? How does Miller of SCUFC get to "chair" the group? Long Bay? Lander U.? Why? ODP has suffered in the past from the same sort. Why not some new blood?

But wait... I thought ODP was run by CESA.

Who else would you rather see in this group Jordi? President of Barnwell Soccer Club, CASA and Florence SA? Those guys are willing to help SC kids as they did for years. This is the first time we have all those DOC's and presidents on board willing to work with each other and trying to make some changes. It surely can't get worse then the previous couple years so at least give them a chance and see what's the plan.

LeGrazie, I got this email today from the ODP ADVISORY COMMITTEE...

District Tryouts: Sunday, December 5
Boys from 10am–12pm (Registration starts at 9am)
Girls from 2-4pm (Registration starts at 1pm)
Coastal District: Patriots Point, Mount Pleasant
Midstate District: BB&T, Columbia
Piedmont District: MESA, Greenville

Note: 15-20 players from each district will be invited to attend the State Team Tryouts on Sunday, December 19

Note: If you are unable to attend tryouts on December 5th. for any reason you must register for the ODP Tryouts online at www.SCYSA.org by the deadline. You must also inform Allen Bishop, SCYS ODP Administrator, of your intentions prior to the District Tryouts (December 5). Please note that your excuse must be approved by Allen Bishop and documented as well.

State Tryouts: Sunday, December 19 @ BB&T
Boys from 10am–12pm (Registration starts at 9am)
Girls from 2-4pm (Registration starts at 1pm)
Note: Attendance at the State Tryouts are by invitation only.

Next week we will be sending out the list of coaches for the respective age groups.
