It was my understanding that ENCL teams would not be competing any longer in state cups after this year.

Interesting timing. I received this e-mail today:

Interesting letter. This is an excerpt from an article "ECNL members to drop State Cup next year" by Robert Ziegler, ESNN, that ran this past July at topdrawersoccer.com ...

"On the subject of ECNL becoming a more exclusive competition, board members Christian Lavers of FC Milwaukee and Doug Bracken of Ohio Elite reiterated that ECNL member teams will not be permitted to play in the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championship Series beginning with the 2011-2012 season."

I would be very interested to see a confirmation by Lavers or Bracken at ECNL to the content of the letter from Sage to Sutter.

(just a tangent while searching NorCal for info relating to the letter)

Interesting post on the NorCalSoccer.com forum. Sound familiar?... "Questioning ECNL yet again - 1 of the 3 games in North Carolina was cancelled due to weather. To fly everyone to the East Coast in December seems crazy. Pretty expensive for 2 games and girls missed 2 days of school. Is the exposure reallty worth it?"

Is the exposure really worth it? How many girls received scholarships based on ECNL play?

off topic, but i feel bad for all kids that have to practice 5 nights a week & travel weekends during their high school years.
i played three sports in high school & didn't have the schedule or pressure that these kids face & 99% of them won't being going pro just like me.

Not to be pro or con on the question but at this point making that call seems premature. If in a few years if most players in ECNL are getting DIV I rides then we might be able to make a call, of course would they be making it based on club/ODP/HS rep too?? It's like getting to the center of a Tootsie Roll Tootsie POP---- The world may never know

So hey, about the death of those instate rivalries and lack of competition within the state........

What needs to be done to make State Cup something other than a rubber stamp?

On the boys' side - as long as SCUtd, SCUtd-MP, and other smaller clubs, continue to encourage their best 14-18 year old kids to play in the USSDA (and CESA refuses to do so), nothing will change. That is not to say that CESA wouldn't win a lot of championships anyway, but they certainly wouldn't win them all.

Agreed with tbe boys. Now......what's the reason the rest of the state can't compete on the girl's side? And what can be done to address it? Should something be done?
