I don't understand why people think because they have been with a club, paid their fees/dues, and volunteered that it entitles their player/family to something. Broad River Road has voiced concerns that most parents never have the nerve to vocalize. I can't believe that someone didn't look at all the possible ramifications of this situation last fall. Good Luck to Romeo.

I have a region 3 question. Can a player play for a team in another state and play in their state cup, and then come to south carolina and play in the SC state cup the same year.

Is it a calendar year, or does club soccer have a different setup?

No, a player is not allowed to play in the State cup for more than one USYSA state association (like SCYSA in SC) in the same seasonal year (August-July).

My guess is his HS coach would let him practice with the varsity team.

SCHSL rules prohibit seventh and eighth graders from participating on varsity soccer teams. It's my understanding that participation includes practice.

The rule reads, "D. With the exception of football, wrestling, lacrosse and soccer, eligible seventh and eighth
grade students may participate on varsity teams."

I could be interpreting incorrectly, but judging by the language of a subsequent passage:

"F. A student whose name appears on a school's football certificate of eligibility shall not
PRACTICE WITH NOR PARTICIPATE ON another football team for which he has been certified"

...it seems that the League is drawing a distinction between "practicing with" and "participating on."

I guess that's up for some "interpretation". It would be good to get an official explanation from the SCHSL. I was always told that 7th and 8th graders could not practice with the varsity which meant the varsity and JV were not allowed to scrimmage each other if 7th and 8th graders were on the JV team. Of course this is not an issue in the district where I am coaching now since 7th and 8th graders are not allowed to play JV if their middle school has a team and all of the middle schools in our district do have teams.

I don't presume to know why he had to switch teams or wanted to,..

He is a U14 player who was playing up on a U15 team in the fall. SCYSA/R3PL do not have a spring season for U15.

One thing is certain ...
We can all discuss -- even disagree on -- the issue without citing a specific kid (other than our own, should we be so foolishly inclined).

rules are rules he cant play. Ths state cup he played in at u-14 is for the year 2011. this has been tried before but by a whole team.they were allowed in leauge but no state cup.meaning no regionals.

It's been done by many individuals who were allowed to play in the Challenge League or PMSL but not State Cup. But this is R3PL. I would think the difference is that teams can qualify for the Regionals directly from R3PL without winning their state cup, so that would make it similiar to him playing in a state cup.
