It is going to be bittersweet for the 92s. Both the boys' and girls' teams have made great runs these past years! It would be nice to see one of them win regionals (again).

Agreed. I wish I were able to watch the CESA 92 Premier Boys play. They've been an exceptional group over the years and I hope they finish strong! Best of luck!

Ever since they were u13s they (minus and add a player or two to this year's team) have been something special. Hopefully Coach M will have them mentally prepared. They have a tough Georgia team in the round robin stage. It won't be easy.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (June 17, 2011) – More than 180 teams, including three defending 2010 US Youth Soccer National Champions and six Regional Champions, kicked off the 2011 US Youth Soccer Region III Championships today at Richard Siegel Soccer Park in Murfreesboro, Tenn. All but one defending Regional Champion won their first game in the tournament. Defending Regional and National Champion Solar 94 Red (TX-N) was the lone defending champion to fall on day one, losing 4-1 to local team Brentwood 94 Girl Premier (TN).

In the Under-14 Boys bracket, the Dallas Texans 97 Boys (TX-N) team started its quest for a regional championship with an early goal by Samuel Valadez in the sixth minute of their game versus SAA Real Madrid (FL). Valadez followed up with another goal in the fourteenth minute. SAA Real Madrid from Florida got a goal back before half, but the Dallas Texans added two more goals in the second half to secure a 4-1 win.

On the next field over, Lonestars Red (TX-S) and local team Harpeth FC (TN) battled to a 1-1 tie. The second half began and ended with goals, with Jose Cervantes netting a goal for Lonestars in the thirty-seventh minute. Harpeth FC leveled the score in dramatic fashion on a PK in the sixty-ninth minute, just before the final whistle.

FC Dallas 97 Boys Premier (TX-N) gave an emphatic opening statement in the tournament with two first half goals versus 97 Boys LA Fire Red (LA). Edgar Mata added a hat trick in the second half to two other second half goals by FC Dallas to secure a 7-0 victory.

In a battle of Premier League qualifying teams, West Pines United (FL) beat Brentwood 97 Boys (TN) 3-1. Ricardo Oliveros scored twice for West Pines in the first half and Louis Brown added a third for his team in the second half. Jonathan Heckman scored for Brentwood in the last minute of the game, but West Pines United held on for the win.

On the U-15 Girls’ side, Atlanta Fire United 96 Elite (GA) scored early and often en route to a 9-0 victory over Little Rock FC 96 (AR). Emily Kuelbs and Grace Damarska each netted two goals for Atlanta Fire United. The team will look to continue their goal scoring throughout the rest of the tournament.

Two second-half goals lifted the Lonestars 96 Red (TX-S) to victory over West Pines United FC 95/96 (FL). Lonestars player Mikaela Harvey scored in the forty-third minute and again in the seventy-fifth to lead her team on day one.

A hard-fought game between CESA 95 G Premier (CS) and NASA 14 Elite of (GA) ended in a 1-1 tie. Sarah Renfro of CESA opened the scoring with a strike in the twelfth minute. Leigh Purinton leveled the score with a goal in the nineteenth minute for NASA 14 Elite. The two teams each had scoring chances throughout the rest of the game but could not capitalize.

D’Feeters 96 (TX-N) scored three first half goals and followed up with three second half goals on its way to a 6-0 victory over FC Alliance 96 Black (TN) on day one. D’Feeters was led by Kristina Schulz, who scored twice in the first half.

In U-18 girls, R3PLE had a great day going 4-0-1 with Concorde Fire Elite getting the tie with Texans Red. CESA '92 U-18 Girls gained a hard fought 2-1 win over Brentwood with goals from Mary Stanton and Brayden Miller.

Mandeville Lakers (LA) with one former and one current SC player (Amy Hoover, Morgan Cutts) took a hard loss against a very strong Lonestar team from STX. Wishing them better luck for today's game.

In U-19 girls, HC United from FL (includes 4 Furman players incl. one former CESA from SC, and 1 from USC) pulled together for a good 2-0 win over team from OK.

And, congratulations to the SCUMP '96 girls in u-14 age group getting their first win in their first game at their first Southern Regional.

The later games at 6:00 had best weather in years... only 85 degrees without rain. Would be nice if that "cold wave" held up.
