Reality is, there are precious few professional soccer franchises in this country, men's or women's, making money. There is a vast gulf between "have" and "have-not" players. The TV money isn't that good. Ad revenues are down everywhere. You'd be shocked by how little many MLS players are making.
Even in a mainstream "American" sport, basketball, only NBA support and limited revue from an ESPN contract keep the WNBA afloat. Most of the "stars" make their real money overseas, and only play WNBA to stay in front of American audiences for potential endorsement revenue.
FWIW, as many as 2/3 of NBA franchises are losing money now, and several MLB franchises are upside-down. It ain't all the NFL, which is a model, and a license to print $$$.
