We have received many emails in regards to the 2011 NSCAA Awards nomination information. We received this email yesterday from Eric Turner of the NSCAA:

To all,

The NSCAA is in the process of updating the website. Therefore, all of the links AA, Scholar, coach, etc. will not be up until sometime next week. I will notify you all with the links as soon as they notify me that the links are working.

Thanks,

Eric

We will update this thread with information on when/how to nominate deserving players based on the 2011 spring season as soon as it becomes available to us.

NSCAA ALL-AMERICAN NOMINATION GUIDELINES

Requirements

* Must be a member of the NSCAA, SCACA, and SCHSSCA to participate.

Timeline

* October - Send out information on voting;
* Early November - Deadline established for all nominees to be submitted;
* Early November - Voting Deadline;
* Mid-November - Submit results to NSCAA Chairman;
* End of November - State Winners Announced; All-Region Selections Announced;
* Early December - All-Americans Announced

NSCAA State Chairman Responsibilities

(A) To organize a committee of coaches to select the girls/boys worthy of All-American selection. The number of girls/boys to be selected is determined by the All-Region and All-American selection process. This list of girls/boys will be in numerical order. The list will be sent to the region chairman by a specific date every year.

(B) To see that the All-American nominees receive the official nomination form at the earliest possible date.

(C) To see that the nominees' coach knows that he/she needs to be a member or intends to be a member; without this commitment the nominees will be removed.

(D) To encourage NSCAA membership.

(E) The state chair will have a written selection process statement. This process will be chosen from the list approved by the NSCAA. The process for South Carolina is:

NSCAA Process #1 - South Carolina Process
All NSCAA members that serve as a Head Coach or Assistant Coach from the state are contacted and allowed to nominate players. Once nominations are closed, all NSCAA members are allowed to rank the players. The ballots are then tabulated using a predetermined system (e.g. most points win, throw out one high score and one low score, then add up the points). The calculating needs to be checked and all ballots saved. A committee chairperson and an assistant, who is listed with the NSCAA should do this.

Amendment: South Carolina ranks the players 1-2-3-etc. with #1 recognizing the top selection.

NSCAA Process #2
If a state has leagues, regions, areas, conferences, etc., this group shall meet to evaluate the players and rank them numerically. These ranked players are carried to a state meeting where all players are discussed and are numerically ranked. The official committee is made up of league representatives and a chairperson and needs to be listed with the NSCAA.

NSCAA Process #3
Individual coaches send nominations to a committee. There needs to be written evaluations on all players nominated. The committee should consist of high school coaches from a cross section of the state. The use of college coaches, youth coaches, and/or parents is approved, but strongly recommended that they are not allowed to vote. Their input needs to be recognized and used in evaluating. The committee needs to be listed with the NSCAA along with the chairperson.

I have sent emails about NSCAA Scholar All-American and no one seems to know when it will be released. It's not on the website and the folks I've contacted say they're not responsible for it. We'll see. Hopefully by the weekend it will be posted.

I still have not heard when the NSCAA Scholar All-American nomination form is going to be posted online. The NSCAA has launched their revamped - and much better - website as of November 4, but I cannot find the form. I've contacted the NSCAA National Office and will let you know what I find out.

To all,

Below is a letter from the NSCAA regarding the website entry of the All Region and All American Players. Please forward to the coaches in your state who will be entering players and anyone else you deem appropriate. The letter was supposed to go out to all of the high school coaches who are NSCAA members. Some of you may have received the letter already and some of you have not. I know that this will save everybody a lot of questions in the future. Please send it out as soon as possible. The user ID and password are the coaches NSCAA membership number.

Thanks,

Eric

Coach, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America is pleased to announce the launch of the new NSCAA.com. This new web site is a tremendous upgrade from our past site. It is easier to navigate and will provide better access to your numerous NSCAA membership benefits. The new web page is now available at www.NSCAA.com.

With the launch of the web site we are also announcing the opening of many of the Award nomination pages that are available to you as a high school coach. The nomination pages available to you immediately on the NSCAA web site are: NSCAA High School All-America and All-Region; Scholar All-America; National and Regional Coach of the Year; National and Regional Assistant Coach of the Year, and the Senior Excellence Award.

You can access these award pages on the web site at nscaa.com. Click on the link on the web page that reads “My NSCAA.” You will need your current NSCAA membership number to access this page.

Please read the brief description of each of the following awards available to you as an NSCAA member.

All-Region and All-America: Coaches that have had a player selected as All-Region or All-America by their respective high school state associations can register their player immediately. This process must be completed by Nov. 25. Please be sure to enter correct contact information. This is the information we will use to contact your players. Please remember this page is only for players that have been selected and contacted by their state associations.

Scholar All-America: Any NSCAA member high school head coach can nominate a player for Scholar All-America. The nomination page will remain open until Nov. 25. To qualify for the Scholar All-America Program, the player must be a senior graduating in 2012. They must have a minimum GPA of 3.75 and must be a significant contributor to your team. This award is based on both soccer ability and academics, not just any player with excellent grades. Please be sure to include your player’s soccer accomplishments when nominating.

Senior Excellence Award: Every NSCAA member high school head coach can nominate one player from their team for this award. The player must be a senior, must have made a significant contribution to the team and exemplify the standards of fair play, sportsmanship and leadership. This nomination page will be available immediately and close on Dec. 7. The player and school will receive a NSCAA Senior Excellence Awards certificate along with recognition on the NSCAA web site. Note: The Senior Excellence Award is available for voting via .pdf. Click here to obtain a nomination form.

Coach of the Year: Coaches that have been contacted by their respective high school state association can register as a State Coach of the Year immediately. This process must be completed by Nov. 25. Please be sure to enter correct contact information. This is the information we will use to contact you. Please remember this page is only for coaches that have been selected and contacted by their state associations.

Assistant Coach of the Year Award: Every NSCAA member head coach can nominate their assistant coach for the Regional and National Assistant Coach of the Year Award. This nomination page is now open on the NSCAA web site and will be available until Nov. 25.

Coach, thank you for your continued NSCAA membership and your commitment to high school soccer. We at the NSCAA take pleasure in serving you as a member of this great association. If you have any questions or issues with the online awards system, please visit our Website Feedback page at http://www.nscaa.com/about/website-feedback or send an email to the National Office at website@nscaa.com and include as much detail as you can, such as the type of award program you’re experiencing an issue with and the URL of the web page where you encountered the issue. If you have specific award committee questions, please refer to the committee list on the awards page of the NSCAA web site. This will have committee information for each award offered by the NSCAA and who the people are that direct these committees.

Best regards and I hope to see you in Kansas City at the 2012 Convention!

Jeff Farnsworth
NSCAA Awards Chairman

Only 35 female and 33 male high school soccer players nation wide were bestowed this prestigious recognition! The awards will be given at the NSCAA luncheon in Kansas City on January 14. Speaker will be the head of U.S. Soccer, Sunil Gulati, and each player will be greeted individually on stage by Taylor Twellman. Attending the award ceremony will be a memorable experience for our five fine young athletes (and their coaches).

The NSCAA event, January 11-15, is the world's largest annual gathering of soccer coaches and the largest soccer convention in the world.

Again congratulations on their selection!

Congratulations to former Greenville HS boys soccer coach Ed Joyce on being named a 2011 NSCAA Regional Assistant Coach of the Year for Georgia State University.

Coach Joyce is also a former Presbyterian College assistant coach and played collegiately at Erskine College. His father, Lee, is the head coach at Thomas Sumter Academy in Sumter, SC. Ed is a native of Shefford, England, and was an assistant coach for women's soccer at Ohio University before joining the Panthers program in Atlanta.

Also, kudos to former Erskine College women's soccer coach Billy Lesesne, on his Women's College South Region Assistant Coach of the Year award. An alum of Erskine College, Lesesne began his coaching career at Cambridge Academy in Greenwood, S.C., in 1988 before serving as the College of Charleston men's soccer assistant coach from 1990-91. He coached both the men's and women's programs for the Flying Fleet for six years. Before his Duke tenure, Lesesne was an assistant women's soccer coach at Vanderbilt University in 2000.
