I was very impressed with Socastee when we played them in the Carolina Soccer Classic. At that time, I believe they started 6 seniors and 5 juniors which speaks volumes about their experience.
Kyle Murphy (#22) was absolutely fantastic against us as well as Kent Moore (#7). They were very familiar with each other and you could really tell that they've played a lot of soccer together. They have a lot of confidence in one another.
Of course with Memo Suarez at the helm, they will be well coached in all facets of the game!
Last year they finished #15 in 4A with a 15-10-1 record overall and lost to Irmo in the Quarterfinals 3-0. They defeated Richland Northeast (5-0) and Fort Dorchester (2-0) in the first two rounds of the playoffs.
At the highly competitive Palmetto Cup the Braves posted a 1-2-1 record with a victory (2-1) against a young Eastside squad, a tie (1-1) against a veteran Lexington team, and a pair of two-goal losses to 1A State Champion Christ Church (0-2) and Virginia representative Atlee (1-3).

There's no doubt Socastee is good with an 8-0 start this season.. but their schedule is so weak. They play one ranked team all season (spring valley) and they move up to #1 in the state rankings?

socastee is a very good team and deserves to be up top in the rankings but i think their defense is too cocky....they are a very very well coached team and they play together very well

SF I would be pretty suprised if you ever said anything nice about anybody on this board, or at least game some of them a little credit(especially the teams that beat you) .

Socastee is by far the best team I have ever played against. They have A LOT of talent. With Kyle(#22), and that # 7, they could very well be unstoppable this year. And they will dominate next year at the 3A level. Extremly well coached and play very well together. They know where each one of them is on the field at all times, and Kyle has the most unbelievable shot I have seen in a long time. Pure nastiness. Good luck for the rest of the year, and to the guys who are gonna be playin college ball next year.

Socastee does have a pretty weak schedule. Will this not prepare them for the playoffs? We shall wait and see. As for them look awesome, a very good team can look awesome when they play weak competition. I would not jump on the bandwagon on Socastee being "unbelievably" good. I would say they are probably a very good team, but in the end, I think their schedule will come back to haunt them. Good luck the rest of the season!

I agree, Socastee may very well be one of the better teams this year.. but you can't jump to conclusion and say that they will be "unstoppable." They've yet to play anyone to prove this. They played Spring Valley and won a close one 1-0. Spring Valley is a strong team but does not compare to a team like Irmo, S. Aiken, Aiken, etc. It looks like we won't know if Socastee is for real until the playoffs. Beating weak teams 10-0 doesn't say anything about a team, its the stronger teams they play that decide if they can be labeled "unstoppable."

When I was talkin bout "unbelievably" good, I was talkin about the shot Kyle has. He scored 3 goals against us, and every single shot looked wide or over, and would either dip at the last second, or curve in at the last second. He scored 2 of them from about 25 out, and they were nasty. They may not play the hardest teams, but as the season progresses, they will get even stronger, and I think they can beat a Irmo or South Aiken of a Wando.

Murphy is definaty their MVP for the 2nd year running. Socastee has battled their location and region by putting themselves in tournaments with good teams and out of conference schedule. They deserve respect.

Sorry, Did I miss understand? Did someone say Lexington better? Dont they have a losing record right now? I dont mean to sound bad or anything but if you want to say you are better then someone I would at least have a winning record before I did it.

No one can justify that Lexington is a better team than Socastee. It is true that Lexington has a losing record; but it is also true that their combined W-L-T record of opponents is 86-61-5 where as Socastee's is 65-78-2. Lexington plays a total of 9 games against ranked teams all season including #3 S. Aiken, #4 Aiken, #5 Irmo, #6 Hilton Head, #7 Dutch Fork, #10 Ridge View, and #13 Spring Valley where as Socastee plays a Spring Valley team who is struggling to hang on to their #13 ranking. If you've watched any of Lexington's games they have all been very close and exciting games. That's beside the point though.. and Socastee still remains to be the team labeled as the "#1 in AAAA." But you cannot bash a team for their 3-5-1 record when your schedule consists of you playing only one #13 ranked team. Congradulations to Socastee and good luck this season.. but don't bash a team for their record if you know nothing about that team.

Well West Florence is ranked #10 in 3A so maybe that will give socastee some competition tonight. But I do see Socastee's schedule messing them up when it comes to playoffs. By the way where is the game going to be played tongiht?

I'll throw my two cents in just for the heck of it. I believe that if Socastee plays either Aiken, Wando, dutch Fork or Irmo, socastee would lose. I'd be willing to place a monetary bet on that.

I agree with rooster. They did beat us, but they relied alot on #22, who is a very good player, but they have a weak schedule in a regions down year. Lets see how they fair come may.

Socastee is a really good team but look at it they DONT play any good teams. Lexington on the other hand does and when socastee goes to playoffs they will have their hands full against really hard teams like Irmo and Northwestern etc.

It was a very hard played game, we just didnt bring the emotion and toughness needed until late into the first half.
Two of their goals i wish we could've had back but they were 3 goals better than us easily. Luckily for us Coach Suarez called of the dogs with around 20 minutes left in the game (man i hate it when that happens).
Murphy is now the fastest white boy on earth since Joel Kozak isn't here playing high school ball anymore. If soccer dosent work out for him he should try out for a swim team somewhere (pretty good a diving). Haha, just for laughs... but he is a good player and you have to respect him.
Good luck to Socastee, they are a great team that is fast and agressive. Great coaching and an awesome stadium to play home games at... easily the best field i've ever played high school soccer on. I would like to see a Socastee - Myrtle Beach game... it'd be a good one.

I think that an MB v socastee will be a great match and i hope that lots of people can come. Because each time these two teams meat it has been a very well played match but for the past three years MB has come out on top. We will wait and see what will happen when these two teams meet, but i believe that MB will come out on top once again. #7 is a fluke, atleast that's wut i hear. I think that shane abbott, kyle are the main key players to watch for. But that was just my opinion.

they are coached very well and play very well off the ball as well as on the ball

well we played them last night and could of gone our way easily...they won 2-0. we had a few scoring oppurtunities but they have a real good defense, refs missed a few calls (handball in the box against them which wouldve resulted in a PK) and #22 flat out was arguing with the ref in his face which should have resulted in a card. All in all though socastee played a good game and it was a fun match to have played in.

Speaking of pure class.. I sat on the S. Aiken side of the Lex./S. Aiken game and I couldn't help overhearing the S. Aiken fans threatened and cursing at the Lexington players. Seeing as how the home team had the lead for the majority of the game, I thought this was very low class.. once again.

All the people who say Socastee doesn't deserve to be at #1 need to just shut up. The fact of the matter is that they are, and if they are there, then I don't understand how they don't deserve to be there. They have done all the work, and have been playing together for a long time, and have always been in the top 10 for the past few years. Just because SF only lost 2-0 to them doesn't mean anything. WF lost to them liek 3-0, and said that they were easily 3 goals better than them. WF beat SF, and so it seems to me that Socastee is way more than 2 goals better than South. Socastee deserves everything they have gotten, and will deserve all the things the get for the restof the year, and years to come. They will go very far, hopefully even win state. Props to Socastee, yall are some good soccer players.

socastee is a very good team and i thought the game the other night was a very good game. Whatever some of the guys did after the game didnt reflect how the game was played. I didnt think that many people were talking trash at all but I might be wrong. I think that we have a very weak region and that is going to definitly hurt socastee when it comes to winning state. Every other team from our region socastee has played this year have givin socastee no compitition at all.
