FROM COFCSPORTS.COM- CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston men's soccer team and head coach Ralph Lundy have announced their 2012 spring scrimmage slate. The schedule is highlighted by three matches against professional soccer teams which will all take place in the Charleston area.

"Our 2012 spring schedule will be full of challenges for our players," said head coach Ralph Lundy. "We are lucky to be afforded matches against three professional teams in the Chicago Fire, Columbus Crew and Charleston Battery."

The team, which has been rigorously training since early January, opens the spring on Tuesday, Feb. 21 with an 8 p.m. match at Patriots Point against the Charleston Battery of the United Soccer League.

The following weekend the Cougars will host an alumni weekend for all former players, fans and friends of the program. The weekend kicks off on Friday, Feb. 24 with the annual David Vaughn Memorial Golf Tournament at the Links at Stono Ferry. For more information or to sign up to play in the tournament, contact assistant coach Troy Lesesne (lesesnet@cofc.edu).

The day after the tournament, the Cougars will challenge College of Charleston alumni at 3 p.m. at Blackbaud Stadium. The alumni match will be succeeded by an alumni dinner and attendance to the Charleston Battery versus DC United match at 7:15 p.m.

On Sunday, Feb. 26, the Cougars will challenge the Chicago Fire at Blackbaud Stadium at 11 a.m. and then Queens University at 6:30 p.m. at Patriots Point.

The Cougars host a pair of games on Monday, Feb. 27 as well with the Columbus Crew at 11 a.m. and Coker College at 7 p.m. Both games are at Patriots Point.

After returning from spring break on Saturday, March 17, the team will welcome Clemson and the Battery to Blackbaud Stadium for a set of 70-minute matches starting at 2 p.m. First, the Cougars will take on Clemson followed by the Battery versus Clemson and finally CofC versus the Battery.

The spring slate concludes in Rock Hill, S.C., where the Cougars will take on Charlotte and Winthrop on Saturday, March 31.

"We look at every match and every session in the spring as an opportunity to improve individually and as a team. Our fall season was not where we wanted to finish and we are determined to make 2012 better."

That's a nice schedule of preseason training matches. The Battery's preseason Carolina Challenge Cup tournament has been a great resource for the Cougs to plug into with the MLS teams attending. DC United is also coming to the CCC again this year, wouldn't be surprised if Lundy works them into the mix sometime while they're in town.
