Austin Blaschke of Fort Mill, already on a caution in the 34th minute, attacks his own goal and crashes with goalkeeper JD Raad of Rock Hill. Blaschke took the brunt of the collision but both appear OK in the 52nd minute. Bizarre play by the York County duo. Still scoreless.

55' North 0-1 South. Great attack by the North at the opposite end, but a full field transition sees Connor Bauknight of Fort Dorchester thread a ball through to Bishop England's Brian Gray at the six-yard box and he slots it past Raad at the back post.

76' West Florence's Brooks Asger fells Irmo's Connor Dunbaker after a flurry in the box and a penalty is awarded. Dunbaker sends the shot low to the left corner, but Socastee's Zach Shamah guesses correctly and makes the save with relative ease. North 0-1 South.

Just wanted to give a "shout out" to North-South Soccer Classic Director Katie Smith of Brookland-Cayce, who also served as a Co-Coach of the South Girls team today.

As you can imagine, countless hours are put into staging an all-star event of this magnitude that recognized 72 players and eight coaches at the Friday night banquet, which also coincided with the SCHSSCA Hall of Fame induction of Coach Scott Ruggles and the Dick Walsh Award presentation to Coach Tom Reilly. Throw in the player check-in and lunch on Friday and the FCA Breakfast on Saturday, and it is a whirlwind 48 hours!

This doesn't even take into account the player nominations, selection meetings, photographer coordination, driving to Charleston to meet with hotel management regarding room reservations, meals, etc. Believe me, a lot of work goes into this all-star event and I think most players, coaches, officials, fans, etc., that participate in this type of setting come away feeling very gratified for the experience.

The NSSC has been held every year since 1989 (boys) and 1997 (girls) and this year's event was as well attended as any in recent memory. A true testament to Coach Smith who coordinated so many areas for the intent purpose of recognizing the Palmetto State's top senior soccer players.

Kudos to Katie!
