Looks like someone is unhappy with an "unfair advantage" resulting in lots of state championships for non-public schools! Could be an interesting fight ahead.

Complaint says parochial teams have an unfair advantage and asks that they be removed from NCHSSA

Here is the official response from Charlotte Catholic, Bishop McGuinness and Cardinal Gibbons to a proposal from Rowan County Schools to have them removed from the N.C. High School Athletic Association.

For a followup

http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2012/05/03/3216205/vote-that-would-have-ousted-charlotte.html

Funny that over 80% of those who voted (read as those who care I guess) said kick them out! Seems to me a failure to vote on something like this should bring some serious heat from the leauge. I am guessing this is gonna be an annual issue unless these private schools start playing at a higher level!

I think the public schools need to start playing at a higher level when they lace them up against Charlotte Catholic!

While I fundamentally agree that ALL schools should be working to improve their product, this is a legitimate issue. Don't hold me to exact numbers, but I'm thinking Bishop England had won something like 15 state championships in boys' soccer, and multiple (10?) consecutive titles in volleyball. The school's staff, student population, parental involvement, facilities, resources, etc., are unique among Class AAAA schools, much less Class AA. ALL CREDIT TO THE BE FAMILY FOR THAT! But the fact remains, in many instances, the school is not competing on a level playing field.
So, what do we do? "Dumb them down" or sharpen other programs up?

Good point Backscreen.

Nation Ford and Fort Mill will both be moving up to 4A next season. If you add their enrollments together, they still fall significantly short of Wando's enrollment.

Is that a level playing field? What do we do......complain? Lobby for the creation of 5A?

No, we deal with it. Life isn't always "fair". Someone else is always going to have better demographics, better numbers, better resources......

You do the best with what you have, and you teach "life lessons".
