Ok let me chime in because there have been a few inaccuracies. First, Airport did not lose the match let alone lose on purpose, the final was 2-1 in favor of Airport. The game was in hand with AHS being up 2 nil with 1 minute left. The goalkeeper allowed the goal at the end, yes that part is accurate. This was not done to "secure" the 4th seed, a win over Chapin, Flora, and BC to end the season actually would have meant a 2 seed for the girls. The goal was merely for tiebreaker purposes in the event the girls did not win out.
Airport lost to ACF in pk's, if Coach Morris was so adamant about getting the 4th seed then I don't think this match would have headed into the 6th penalty kick. Coach tries to win every match, just like he should but again, the only thing he lost against Chapin was a tiebreaker. If he wanted to guarantee a 4 seed he would have just lost to Chapin in the first place.
Everyone's goal is to make it to the state championship game and if there is a strong possibility of a tie within the region, you obviously have to look at the path to State. A lot of times the 3 or 4 in our region is better than a 2. The administration and Athletic Directer are very aware of the situation, it was something that Coach Morris brought to them himself. This was a tactical move, one that was not meant to degrade another team, the goal given was in the final minute. Is this really different than clearing your bench and not caring if you get scored on? You can disagree if you want, that is your prerogative as a coach, parent, fan, but this is not the first time this has been done in high school sports. Just recently Dutch Fork baseball threw a game so they wouldn't have to meet Lexington early in the playoffs. I would link the thread but it was deleted off scvarsity. Whether it is right or wrong is your opinion and your opinion only.
That being said, 3A and 4A should go to a seeding system similar to 1A and 2A, that is the bottom line. As for Coach Morris-he is very respected in the girls soccer community and has been very successful at Airport High School, he is not a cheater and he doesn't "bend rules" so no need to turn this situation into anything more than it is.
