For the 12th consecutive season, SCSoccer.com has partnered with renowned mathematician, Kenneth Massey, to provide Palmetto State prep soccer with an unbiased power rating system, the Massey Ratings. Kenneth Massey is a professor of mathematics at Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, TN. He received his B.S. from Bluefield College and a master's degree (ABD) in mathematics from Virginia Tech. His research involved Krylov subspaces in the field of numerical linear algebra. Kenneth is a partner with Limfinity consulting, and produces the Massey Ratings, which provide objective team evaluation for professional, college, and high school sports. His college football ratings have been a component of the Bowl Championship Series since 1999. Massey has also worked with highschoolsports.net since 2008. Girls Overall1. TL Hanna 2. Poverty Indices for Schools and Districts Each year, a "poverty index" is determined for each school and district in South Carolina. The index is based on free and reduced-price lunch data and Medicaid eligibility data. The poverty index is used to identify "schools like us" and "districts like us" for the accountability report cards. Schools and districts within 5% (above or below) of your school's or district's poverty index are considered to be like your school or district.
Bolded schools have both varsity soccer teams in Top 30

I'd be interested to know Indian Land's ranking five years ago and ten years ago. I don't think any other school in the state has made greater "demographic strides".
Kids play sports because they find it fun. Eliminate the fun and soon you eliminate the kid.

so soccer is a rich mans sport. In America, we knew that. In most other countries, it is a poor mans sport, or the sport of the masses. One of the many reasons we do not fare well internationally. How can we change that? Coming from one of those high poverty schools, ( and actual versus reported is also a factor) I would love to get more girls involved in the game. but they just cant afford it to play club, know they will get whipped unless they do, would rather play basketball or run track.
Score is Silver, Art is Gold!

Wow! I did not realize Swansea's PI was that high now (82.79). In 1993, it was around 36. Most of my young ladies cannot afford the large dollars to play...I do the best I can to help. Most coaches would do the same if they could. There are times I think of giving up, until I had a player pass away last year-well worth it now! Perspective!!!
