Parents SHOULD have a voice in these things. NOT the decisive voice. But a voice.

Agreed...a responsible administration should take the voices of ALL stakeholders into account in order to come to an informed, professional decision for the overall benefit of the program. Good leaders know how to hear and weigh all sides without automatically deferring to any.

Agreed. Thats where it usually starts. Booster club etc.. The problem is when certain parents feel the need to go above the chain of command. When the state head of atheletics is getting emails it becomes a problem. Your high school ad and principal don't like phone calls from state officials concerning high school soccer coaches. Nor do they respond to threats. Actually slows the process down.

If coaches are affected because parents are up in arms about certain issues, then those parents' names need to be divulged since only a couple of coaches could be affected at "said school".

Agree too, that parents should have a voice; however, it should be ALL parents, not just the parent's who are really upset about playing time, where their child plays etc. It's sad.

rivrat: My thought is simple. No SINGLE parent should be afraid or hesitant to express concerns, and the proper authority SHOULD be willing to listen, investigate, etc.
Conversely, no SINGLE parent should have an authoritarian say over team/school policies.

J.L. Mann HS has an opening for Head Girls Soccer Coach. There are NO teaching positions available at this time. Please send resumes and references to Athletic Director Tod Tucker at ttucker@greenville.k12.sc.us or Assistant AD Joe Watson, Sr. at jwatson@greenville.k12.sc.us. No phone calls please.

Agreed, A parent should be able to PARENT. It becomes something else when a PARENT solicits complaints to help their own cause. That is when administration REALLY needs to consider sources etc. For some people, the glass is always half empty. Politics seems to sneak into the picture, even in HS sports. Some administrators get scared and delve into the business of parent pleasing, too often, to save their own skin. It doesn’t fix the problem with a new coach, maybe a new AD that will support his or her coaches. And usually the apple is hitting the roots of the tree as far as whining goes. Whiny parents have whiny kids. It doesn’t teach any life lessons, just continues the cycle of enabling.
