Probably a good option if you are a minority.

I don't think being a minority has anything to do with it and perhaps that is why you see out of state and JUCO players on their team, as SC students will not go there, another mistake and perhaps a sign on how we look upon that university in this state.

An education is a education and if you can play soccer even better. Their program is quite acceptable now from what I know, they were unlucky to lose to Winthrop the other night, and have posted some good records in the 2009 and 2010 season.

Their team is very diverse, saw them play and there is only 3-4 African American players on the roster, so that proves that it works for more then just minorities......so to answer the question, I believe SC State is certainly worth looking at!

Depends ENTIRELY on how much you need and want to play college soccer to advance your education, fitness and self-esteem.
Let the buyer beware.
In my opinion, SCSU is not a particularly good environment academically, and has experienced enough difficulties financially to call into question previous administrations' responsibility and competence.
Indeed, one could make the case that SCSU's next-door neighbor, Claflin, also an HBCU, offers a better educational and social environment than its more visible neighbor.
Doesn't mean you CAN'T get a legitimate education at SCSU. Many do. However, too many kids at SCSU DON'T complete undergraduate degrees, and many who do are not certifiable in their chosen fields.

Perhaps this attitude is the reason SC State does not have South Carolina students on the roster! Why avoid? Yes the administration has been under the spotlight, but it is accredited by the same bodies as everyone else in the state and if you do a little research you will see that the women's soccer team has posted the 6th highest GPA amongts all NCAA Division 1 teams last couple of years. They also have 11 seniors on the roster, so retention is good....can you say that about the other Division 1 teams in the state?

Of course it is not for everyone, you have to have an open mind to attend there....for example if you are in a position to pay $10000 at another school or go to SC State for free you may have to consider. Undergraduate degree this day is the norm, most have to go to grad school, so why not get it from SCSU. Just saying, don't see it as such a bad school.....

Don't believe I said it was a bad school or a bad program. Nor would I have a single problem sending my kid to an HBCU, if that school were financially sound and well-administered. It appears SCSU is neither. From what I understand, its admin is trying to dig out of a $6 million shortfall, brought on by, among other things, a shortfall of 500-600 in enrollment. School admin is looking at, among other things: 1) Closing dorms; 2) Freezing salaries; 30 Reducing staff and programs; and 4) Postponing building projects.
Like I said, let the buyer beware.

wouldn't touch with a 10ft pole. that degree is becoming useless even among the few that manage to get one.
why the state let them misappropriate funds for so long is a mystery, well not really a mystery.. . buyer avoid.

"An education is a education" - this is a scary thought!
