Well, I suppose it is somewhat dissapointing that Riverside lost (to me anyway) but NN was impressive the time I saw them and considering EVERY one of their games were shutouts, they probably do deserve it. Good to hear it was a relatively close game, good tournament and good luck to both teams in the future.

Well, I too am sad that Riverside lost, but after seeing the first day of games, I thought that Riverside or Summerville were the only teams that would have the physical presence and skill combination to match Norman North.

The thing I was amazed with was the logistical smoothness that the tournament flowed with, at least from what I saw as a spectator. I'm talking about referees on time, teams at the fields, kick offs at the posted times, substantial warm-up areas adjacent to the fields, kick off times allowed for adequate warm-up time on the game field, really good, reasonably priced chili dogs. The only thing is that maybe next year we could recruit some out of town referees (and pay them) to create 3-man systems. I know some less experienced referees would be willing to travel and run lines. Referee assignors could communicate and send the best 1-2 from each the upstate and lower state each day. This way, those referees could work 3 games in a day and not have stay overnight. If you want to know exactly how I got to this number, e-mail me. A tournament of this stature and these great teams deserve the 3-man system for every game.

Not enough can be said for the quality work that Kevin, Kyle, Will, the referee assignor for the mid-state (sorry, i draw a blank) and everyone else involved with the Palmetto Cup does every year. This is a prime example of how to run a big time tournament, or any tourney for that matter. Other schools, and clubs for that matter, could learn a lesson or two.

that would've been better, but i felt the reffs that were there called great games.

It was an honor to be apart of this tournament. Easily the best run i've ever seen.

I was kind of surprised that the tourney ran a 2 ref system..even for the Championship match..but it really didn't seem to effect the match that much. The refs kept up with the game and were well positioned to catch the offsides.

I definitely regret never being a part of this tournament..but I can't do anything about that. I can say that as long as it is put on..I'll come to watch.

(It should be even better next year since CN and BE will be able to join..can't wait)

On behalf of Kev/Kyle/Will, et. al., we'd love to have the whole tourney run with the three-man system -- it is a matter of numbers, we've been told, not funding for officials ... Dennis Cook does a great job of assigning officials given the number available in the Midlands. We had only one official late for an assignment (first time in tournament history that an official delayed the start of a match).

Riverside and Norman North were the best teams in the tournament, from what I saw -- Norman North possibly the best high school soccer squad I've ever seen. However the level of competition in this tournament is always tremendous, so nobody should feel like I'm knocking them.

Major kudos to Kevin and Kyle especially, for they do the overwhelming majority of the work. It takes a lot of time and effort to invite and maintain excellent tournament fields. We all take a lot of pride in running this tournament the way we think one should be run, and how we think participants and spectators would like it run. There are always areas which could be improved but we try to learn from our mistakes.

I am proud to have been a part of the tournament since its inception, and one of the reasons I stay with it despite no longer teaching is because it is such a class act. Thanks to every staff member and volunteer who helped with the tournament this season. Hope to see everyone again in May during Championship Weekend ... and as many as I can see throughout the rest of the season. Good luck to all participants, and thanks for taking an interest in the 2004 Palmetto Cup.

There will be an all-tournament team announced later this week for the Palmetto Cup. We don't tally the all-tourney nominations on Saturday night, so that teams can in fact decide who they want to represent their respective squad.
