""It ain't over 'til it's over" may be legendary baseball player Yogi Berra's most well-known quote. The quip has become a rallying cry in all sports to remind participants to keep playing until the final buzzer has sounded, the final whistle has blown, the final out has been recorded, the final point has been scored, the final putt has dropped or not – or in the case of Jacob Parton, the final save has been made. Parton THOUGHT he had done just that Saturday night in the South Carolina 4A state title game in boy's soccer. Unfortunately, he did not.

After playing to a scoreless draw through 80 minutes of regulation time, 20 minutes of overtime and 10 minutes of sudden-death overtime, Lexington and Irmo were still knotted up 0-0 heading into penalty kicks. Tied at 3 in PKs, Irmo's Mattison Gossett had a chance to be a hero. If the Yellow Jackets' team captain could convert his chance, Irmo would capture a state-record tying 16th state championship. The senior's shot forced the Lexington keeper to his right. Parton's diving attempt stopped the initial momentum of the ball. But as Parton got back on his feet in apparent celebration, the ball - which had major backspin on it -- bounced ever-so-gently past the goal line for the game-winner. Whether or not Parton could have recovered in time to make a second stop is anyone's guess. But the moment was certainly a tough break for Lexington - and a thrilling one for Irmo.}

Oh good because the last time SC soccer got on yahoo it was a girl getting her faced bashed in in the middle of the game.
