All regular season matches must have a "winner" and "loser" per SCHSL/SCISA rules. Therefore, a Penalty Kick Shootout is staged after Overtime has been played to determine that "winner/loser" despite it being a draw.

The only draw that should appear on any Varsity team's record are those matches from tournament play. If there is ever a question, please notify us - SCSoccer.com - and we will correct the MaxPreps Scoreboard.

For example: the Viking Cup, amongst other tourneys, only uses PKs to decide who advances in bracket play but the matches are recorded as draws. There is no Overtime unless it is in the Semifinals or Finals.

In a perfect world, the SCHSL would adopt the "world's rules" and play 90 minutes with no Overtime or Shootouts and the winner/loser would be decided in that time span - or either a draw would be the end result.

BOX SCORE 1 2 OT OT PK FINAL
Home Team 0 2 0 0 4 2 "Winner"
Away Team 1 1 0 0 3 2

So, with MaxPreps the end of Regulation and Overtime results in a 2-2 draw that is decided by a Penalty Kick Shootout (4-3), thus the final score is 2-2 (4-3 PK). This is different than the Eurosport Scoreboard which required you to declare a winner/loser by virtue of posting the score. The aforementioned example would be listed as 3-2 in the score/result box and (PK 4-3 as a "Post") on Eurosport.

Also, when your Team Representative enters the box score and adds PKs, it automatically selects a winner. You can uncheck the "winner" box and it will show as a tie.
