I think that Dutch Fork is more preppy than Irmo now.

1) BE
2) Dutch Fork
3) Dorman
4) Wando
5) Irmo

I think SCISA is well represented with Heathwood,Hammond, and PG.With tuition of $9000+ the prep factor has got be high.

I noticed you put Wando on your list of top 5 preppy programs. I had always considered Mt. Pleasant just another working class suburb of Charleston. What makes them preppy?

lpaf

ps: Do the Wando guys form a circle with their arms around each other's necks and dance a clockwise jig while chanting prior to each game?

But what makes Wando qualify? What characteristic do you picture that puts them in the top 5? Hummers? Year long tans? Come on guys, let it out...

I would think the SCISA would be tops in this category if more posters had dealings with them. Unfortunately, most of us are regulated to 2, 3, and 4-A. I say we put down Brookland Cayce and see how fast this whole thread disappears. Just a joke Kyle & Kevin, just a joke!!!

coach j --

Do you share my sense of astonishment that someone might consider the Wando programs to be preppy? I'm still hoping for some specifics from somebody out there.

lpaf

ps: Thanks for the information on the pregame ritual.

Sorry, I haven't checked this thread in a couple of days. I just consider Mt. Pleasant to be a little above a working class city. It costs a pretty penny to live there. The median price of a home is well above the average for most of South Carolina. I believe that the average home sold for $264,000 in Mount Pleasant in 2003.

Here is a quote out of The Post and Courrier:

"He stressed that everyday public servants, police officers, firefighters and teachers could not afford to buy a house in Mount Pleasant, and he even brought a few to the council meeting to say it themselves. At the time, only one new house under $180,000 was listed on the market"

I think that tells me that Mt Pleasant, and Wando high school are well to do financially. This leads to a "preppy" environment. If the parents have the money, then the kids have the money. From my experiences of when I was in high school, and played against Wando in sports, or attended their school for events, I remember them to be fairly preppy. I guess that is my reason why I said they were preppy.

Lpaf sneeks off to the boys board to throw one- huh?
I do not think the girls do not even know what the chant means.
Many years ago, a Portugese exchange student taught them the ritual.

I think Wando itself isn't preppy. Most of the preppy kids from Mt Pleasant go to either BE or PG.

S1 --

I have to take umbrage at your characterization of me: "Lpaf sneeks off to the boys board to throw one." I was enjoying the boys' redneck program thread (having been born a poor upstate redneck myself) when Spurrier sidestepped into White Collar Soccer. I was shocked, yes shocked, to see Wando listed among the most preppy programs in the state and thought I might tease some specifics out of a few of the posters. Unfortunately the white collar thread doesn't seem to have nearly the legs of the redneck thread. Oh well.

lpaf

ps: Congratulations to Wando for their victory on JI last night. The second act of HS soccer finishes next week and the third and final act begins May third. I already know who is playing that night: Region 7 #1 v Region 6 #4, Region 7 #2 v Region 6 #3 and Region 7 #3 v Region 6 #2. The blood letting starts again on May 7...

Lpaf,
I was responding to this in your earlier post:

************************************************

Having had young relatives attend both BE and Wando, I have a strong admiration for those who stay in the public schools and try to make them better rather than fleeing to the perceived safety of the "preppy" schools.

Boy - was that way off topic or what?

This thread has few that can relate. It won't make the waves of the other, but we can try.

On a seperate note, how is WA boys team in terms of competiveness.
