Proposed Region 5-4A
50. North Augusta - 1,501
55. Aiken - 1,444
56. South Aiken - 1,427
57. Midland Valley - 1,423
63. Airport - 1,363
88. Brookland-Cayce - 1,029

To be honest, this is a region that BCHS was a part of for most of its AAAA history and has been paired with many of the same teams in AAA. Natural I-20 Augusta to Columbia geographic region.

MV traveled to Airport, Swansea, and BC. Travel was terrible yet we still had to do it. Wouldn't Region 4 work better for them anyway?

So B-C wants to stay down to stay a top program in athletics. The travel argument is a wash. We have schools in the lowcountry that have to travel further for region games.

The student population difference from top to bottom is huge though. Curious to see which way the league rules on this one

Agreed. It makes me wonder how long before another classification system is thought about or discussed

"Moving us leaves the region we came from with only five teams," Charpia said. "We are sitting at 1,000 students, and some other schools have 500 or 600 more students than we have. So I think we've got a good argument.

Last time BCHS was in a region with this proposed version:
2016, Aiken - R53A
2016, Airport - R53A
2017, Midland Valley - R53A
1996, North Augusta - R34A
2010, South Aiken - R53A

Man, I am in a region with a team that has 50% more students than we do, and another with 43% more students.

(very) simple math suggests 3A and 4A are fairest groupings.
As percent size of smallest school population to largest

5A 38%
4A 63%
3A 64%
2A 27%
1A 28%

Certainly no expertise here but seems pretty basic algorithm used to group by forced ranking and dividing pool into by 5.

Always going to have someone top and bottom of each range (with clear advantage/disadvantage) with that system.

MY PROPOSAL
----------------------------
0-400, 1A = 50 schools (#217 Calhoun Falls Charter - #167 NEXT HS)
----------------------------
401-800, 2A = 50 schools (#166 East Clarendon - #116 Crescent)
----------------------------
801-1300, 3A = 46 schools (#115 Fairfield Central - #69 Hilton Head Island)
----------------------------
1301-1900, 4A = 43 schools (#68 Beaufort - #25 White Knoll)
----------------------------
1901+, 5A = 24 schools (#24 Northwestern - #1 Wando)
