Interesting reading for sure. Do we have any idea when the realignment will be released?

The realignment plan is definitely not accurate. Lucy Beckham, I believe will start at 3A. 5A has been announced by the SCHSL as between 36-44 schools. I expect 40. 1A will be the largest (around 52 schools) as some schools do not offer football but they are not listed here. Also, 1A sports receive the least revenue and thus have more reason for their travel expense to be a consideration.

I had the same thought about Lucy Beckham. Whatever the committee decides is going to be wrong in the eyes of about 5 school's fan bases.

I did a quick check,, the preliminary numbers that are listed seem to be correct. I just don't know about the re-alignment plan. Also, with Lucy Beckham opening at the start of the realingment cycle, would they possibly put them 5A since they will have 5A numbers their second year? I dont have a clue which way they will go. I dont know if that would even be possible because of football contracts being signed for 2 years, but they would certainly be the largest 3A school their 2nd year.

I was talking with another coach and they think that LB will be put in 5A but only have JV teams to start with.

I am pretty sure Lucy Beckham to 3A is a done deal. Their projected enrollment numbers have already been submitted to the SCHSL. You cannot project their numbers based on attendance zone initially, as the seniors will at Wando (I believe the Juniors as well) and some underclassman with sibling ties.
Also, Phillip Simmons will almost certainly move beyond 2A.
Alister is correct, there will be some gnashing of teeth.

Have they named an AD yet? If 5A caps at 40, that would put Dutch Fork as the smallest 5A at 1287. I would imagine that LB would still be below that number during their second year anyway.

This is interesting. There will be a lot of fixing because some of these regions are going to be a lot travel wise for a school.

so just by looking at it. It looks like James Island will drop to 4A, regardless of what happens.

That would mean they are traveling A LOT because the Charleston Metro doesn't have any other 4A schools. Unless others drop down as well.

I haven't heard anything about Lucy Beckham.
"The SCHSL hopes to get the enrollment numbers from the SC Department of Education in early December and then meet between Dec. 9-15 to figure out classifications and region placement. The SCHSL will inform schools of the class and region placement on Dec. 16"
I wondering if this time table is still going to happen.

The 12th grade numbers have been subtracted to get the 9-10-11 numbers that the SCHSL will use in the realignment. Also, the numbers for Bishop England, St. Joseph's Catholic, Southside Christian and Christ Church Episcopal are tentative.

According to Lou Bezjak's article in The State from 11/20/19: The realignment committee decided the biggest changes will be in Class A, the smallest classification, and 5A, the biggest classification.
Currently, there are 38 Class A schools but only 29 of them have football. In the next realignment, there will be a base of 50 schools with the flexibility to move plus-or-minus four schools giving it between 46-54 schools.
Having more Class A schools would probably eliminate some of the issues that happened in the football playoffs in which a winless team Hemingway hosted a playoff game or one-win teams made the playoffs.
In Class 5A there are 48 schools, but in the next realignment there will be a base of 36 with a plus-or-minus of four schools, meaning there could be as few as 32 schools or as many as 40 in 5A.
Once Class A and 5A are established, the remaining schools will be divided equally among Class 2A, 3A and 4A with the flexibility to move plus-or-minus four schools as it pertains to that classification.

4a region 7,,, will have some battles in soccer for sure. There will be good teams left out of the playoffs. Also Oceanside, Academic Magnet, and Bishop England will be tough as well. Will be fun to see how this pans out.
