GPS Charleston was already a strong NPL club. If you can get some of the battery players on there, wow those will be very strong teams. This announcement may mean some shared field space for gps without having to deal with surf and cathedral.

May be tough to see immediate NPL gains. There will certainly be cross-club issues to work out but the future could be bright in that area. Hope the girls side of things finds a new league to play in.

Should make local tournaments/friendlies/festivals easier to put on (JI, GPS Chas, FC Chas, Chas FC) with lots of field space easily available. Younger age groups could just play internally (u7,U8, maybe even U9). Would keep costs down (for parents) in those early age groups.

This is great for the Boys side I guess. On the girls side this is also great for the SSC kids that didn’t get to play very many games last year. This will allow them access to state leagues but they don’t have NPL on girls side.

You guess correctly to the unasked question as to whether this will be great for the boys side. Honest question: how many more games did USAMP play than Charleston SC(formerly CBSC) in the fall?

Correct, no NPL on the girls side. I think the combined resume was strong enough for it, but some USAMP folks evidently didn't.

We'll talk more on the defunct GDA, and how GA league & ECNL girls look now as well as ECRL v DPL v NPL girls in an more appropriate thread

Just looking at fall season would probably be 10-12 games not including tournaments vs 5-6 games on the SSC side (3 other teams). The piece of this merger that doesn’t make much sense is JIYSC. They wanted to distance themselves from GPS but decided to get back together with them? What do they have to gain...coaches? Knowing what they know about GPS pending legal predicament with respect to treatment of coaches and knowing that treatment occurred here locally it seems like a volatile decision that could impact everyone involved no?

What ages were you looking at? 5-6 games does seem a small amount for a season.

It seems obvious to most that JIYSC likely wanted to distance themselves from the former GPS folks that another club put their arms around. Those bad actors are gone from GPS now. I wonder where they are?

I had not heard that JIYSC wanted to separate. My understanding from people at the club was that GPS gave access to opportunities otherwise unavailable to them. JIYSC had the traditional GPS arrangements where they JIYSC managed the club and GPS supplied the coaching, etc...
