New Blythewood HS Boys Soccer Coach Robby Setzler

Blythewood High School has hired Robby Setzler as the boys soccer coach for the Bengals, which compete in Class 5A of the South Carolina High School League.

A native of Cayce, Setzler was a North-South All-Star at Brookland-Cayce High School in 2008 and played for Coach Kevin Heise as the Bearcats reached the Class 3A Semifinals. He was also a member of the 2006 B-C squad that lost in the Lower State Championship his sophomore year.

A midfielder/defender in his playing days, Setzler played collegiately at USC-Sumter. He served on the BCHS staff through 2017 when he was named interim Head Coach and regrouped the disbanded Bearcats to a 19-7 record, region championship, and a trip to the Class 3A Quarterfinals.

Following that stint he served two years as the Head Coach at Gilbert High School and led the Indians to consecutive region championships and a 23-10-4 mark. This past Spring he served on the Cardinal Newman HS boys coaching staff, but that season was cut short due to the Covid-19 situation.

A veteran coach at Congaree Rapid FC, Setzler replaces longtime Blythewood Coach Peter Wittig, who retired after many years on the prep soccer scene in Richland School District Two, as he directed the Spring Valley High School program for a number of years in the 1990s.
