Cindy Gordon, a Pioneer of the U.S. Women's Soccer Team, Details a Lifetime of Suffering at the Hands of Her Youth Coach

It doesn't take much to make a child keep their silence when they've been abused. The embarrassment and confusion of the child alone can do that. The power dynamic between a player and a coach (at any age) only adds to the pressure to stay silent. Parents may be embarrassed as well and not want their innocent child associated with the heinous act. Especially so, as stated in the article, if its a male coach and a young boy.

I'm not sure who could be opposed to shining a light in these dark corners of youth soccer or what idle threats (by guilty people?) could cause a message board to take down a question. But I do know what I think of the people who aid and abet child abuse by remaining silent or silencing those who ask questions.

If you do not think this topic is appropriate for a youth soccer message board, you don't belong in youth sports.
