Goob, what's up man? I don't know about some of the other teams around the state, but we just finished tryouts last week and things are looking pretty good right now. I'm really excited about this year because I feel like there's going to be a lot of teams that are gonna be able to compete with the "big dogs" in 1A. I was impressed with some of the freshmen that we had come out for our team and so I'm excited that there's some guys coming up that will be able to contribute. Good luck to all the teams with scrimmages coming up.

HeHateMe, I graduated from Buford High School last year. I know DCA is from Southside, mostly because me and him argued on a consistent basis last year after the season was over about who's team was better. I'm glad that argument's over with. Anyways, good luck to you guys this year...I remember playing at Blackville 3 years ago during the days of Dominico Banks. We never got to play you guys again, but I'm sure it would have been a good rematch. I know you guys don't like to hear from college guys on this board, but I avoid talking down anyone on here. It was torture not to say anything when everyone talked down on the '04 Buford squad, but I felt I had to do my talking on the field. Hopefully, that's what McAllister and you guys will do this season. Good Luck.

we'll try not to let our mouths beat us this year b/c we have a new sense of how we want to accomplish our goals this year and hopefully we'll pull it out. and im gonna stick by that creed and let my play do the talking for me b/c ive learned that talk is cheap.

Here's a question: Why haven't SCS and Buford put their schedules up yet. Is your coach/AD being slack or having problems getting games??

This isn't a diss or anything to Blackville-Hilda but what is up with your schedule?? You guys aren't playing anybody but Barnwell twice. If you guys don't go atleast 14-2 then there is a problem. I mean half the teams on that schedule will probably either forfeit or there season will consist of 4 games. That's a little weak in my opinion. What aren't you guys playing DIXIE this year?? Again, I'm not starting anything but seriously guys you have the weakest schedule out there.

Steak Blackville-Hilda will not be playing us this year due to lack of funds. They didnt have enough funding in there sport to make a trip to dixie to play. We wish we could play them but we cant. Im ready to play this season for JESSE.

We did the best we could with our schedule, considering (well, many things), but you're right -- we can go undefeated. We definitely don't need to lose any more than 4 games this year.

Speaking for SCS, sorry our AD or coach hasnt put up our schedule. if you want to see our schedule, go to
http://www.southsidechristian.org/athletics/schedule_filters.asp
and click on Varsity Boys' Soccer. i would say we play a lot of good teams this year, and i am excited to start playing as soon as basketball ends. it looks like a lot of teams have something to prove this year, and i'm sure it will be competitive. good luck to all.

I think that for being the smallest school in the state and not really have a lot to work with that we have a tough schedule. Atleast we play 3A and 2A teams.

I got a question. Is there any other team out there with half of its players still playing basketball? I think that when we scrimmage South Florence we will have 5 or 6 of our 11 starters actually playing because the final basketball game of the season is the next day. If you think your team has had a late start, get this: we have had about one practice with a full team out there. People just don't get what we have to go through to make things work.

I'm hoping someone on South Florence will check this out and understand that the C game is coming rather than the A game when we play them. The only time we'll have our full team is probably against Hartsville later in Feburary, and we should be all set up by the beginning of the regular season.

I sure that our first few games will show how we hold up to other teams for the season.

GSwide.

Yes we do have a weak schedule this year and most of it is do to funding. Soccer isn't exactly what you would call the prime sport at Blacville. As a matter of fact, its about the last sport on the list ahead of baseball. Our AD doesn't care much about the sport so he does as little as possible with it. I know that we have a great chance of going undefeated and that will help us out with the seeding in the playoffs. The only bad thing is that we won't be able to have any real challenges before the playoffs begin besides Barnwell.

Even if Blackville-Hilda goes undefeated or say you guys loose the two matches against Barnwell ending up at 16-2, I still don't see how your gonna be seeded 2nd in the lower state. I mean AM will most likely be #1 seed. Then any other team with a half way decent record should be ranked higher then you guys since all you play (exception of Barnwell) are rec.

Goob, have you stopped for a minute and thought of where these schools are? BHHS is over 2 hours from us. Buford is almost 1.5 hours. For AM, CC and SCS we'd have to bring an overnight bag (just kidding - but you get the point) 1A schools by division are pretty far spread out. Sure there might be a cluster of 2 or 3 within an hour of one or another, but that's about it. GSSM requires students to be in school until 4:00, so we can't go much beyond an hour's drive. It's just the nature of the beast and we play on. Wishing you a good result,

I'm with Krumhead and DCwhatever, when they say the team is shaping up. I'm really excited about our schedule, even. 20 games, and a tournament this weekend!

Speaking of which, what do ya'll think of Emerald and Chapman?

How is your teams looking? I don't want to sound insulting or anything and don't want to spark a debate, but have you given some thought about practicing and playing in the off season?

Good luck to everyone. Stay safe. I'm still recovering from a sprained ankle 1 week ago.

We just added Wade Hampton to our schedule so now we have 2 teams that are ranked in the top ten in 2A. That gives us a little more strength of schedule points.

Can Indian Land possibly make some noise this season? The demographics in this school district are changing as it is fast becoming a Charlotte bedroom community. Lots of growth along Hwy 521. The problem is, they'll probably be 2A or 3A by the time they really get the program going.

Beating a 4A school is a great accomplishment for a 1A school. It doesn't matter how far down the line they are in 4A, a win against them is good for the program.

well we (dixie) went a couple of hours down the road to play BHHS and WE because we wanted to play more 1A teams so perhaps the other schools in 1A dont care enough to do so i was just stating that if some teams played some of the upper-state teams they would stop talking trash about how sorry the other teams are

It's give and take with traveling the state to play teams. Is it better for a AD to: 1. Have a bus ride to play a larger school that is 30-45 minutes of riding...or to 2. Play a 1A school that is 3 hours away? It costs money to travel that far, and usually ADs and coaches of smaller schools shy away from the idea because of a limited soccer budget. Generally, it seems that you get a better seeding for playing the larger schools anyways.

On the other hand, you go the whole year not knowing where you stand among the ranks of 1A schools, until the playoffs. It seems that teams like Buford and GSSM tend to play more teams closer to them, even if the other team is better than them. Seedings wise: what helps you the most? Traveling 3 hours and beating to a 1A school, or traveling 30-45 and losing to a 4A school?

Hurst, IL is seeing lots of growth, and is probably going to be in 2A very soon. They didn't graduate many last year, and have a middle school program that will help them in the long run. They should be the only "tough" region series Buford has this year. However, I believe after this year, Indian Land will regain the crown of Region 3A just because of the talent Buford will lose this year.

are budgets in that bad of shape? i hope your team doesn't win a few playoff games as a lower seed. that would be detrimental to the athletic department. your coach drives u and you pay 30 more bucks gas at the most. do a fund raiser or something man. there's no excuse for not being able to go 2 hours away from your place. if u do travel, then you could likely get on a system in which you travel one year, and the next year your opposition does...that cuts your cost in half and you keep the good competition.

the point is that good competition is priceless at this stage of your careers, assuming most of you won't be playing college ball. you'll get to a post-career point where you wish u'd made a full effort to play one of your message board rivals (i say that bc u compete more on here than on the field) a few more times for at least the thrill of it if not the win. our coach gave us full opportunity to play any and all of the best competition possible, and he continues to with the newcomers, yet still there's nothing i would like more than to do it all over again. you just can't be satisfied talking it up all season and only getting to prove it in an 80 minute time-span in the playoffs, if even that. if you don't realize that now, then you will soon.

Once again the problem is the time frame in which you have to work with. I mean if you actually look at some of the uppper/lower state teams that are in the top 5 (in 1A) it would be well over a 2 hour drive. Good for your coach and your AD, but the majority of 1A schools don't have either the funding or support to do that, hince the 1A label. Sure you can meet somewhere and play at a neutral site but that takes time to put together in the offseason when other sports or going on. It's just not a big priority.

Chelsea Blues brought up a great question and was curious what you guys think:
Do you think it's better for your team to travel that far to play a 1A competitive team (in top 5) or to play a close to home match against a decent/good 2A to 4A team.

I would have to say that it's better to stay closer to home and play a 2A/3A/4A team. I mean I would love to play all 1A teams but the reality is, is that your probably not gonna face any of the upperstate top 5 teams if your in the lowerstate. I know DIXIE has and much props to you guys but.........yeah. We should have some sort of 1A type tournament at the midpoint to help all the teams out and get a feel for where they stand against the competition. That would be a nice little weekend tourney.

Good luck to all and sorry for rambling on.

well the thing about dixies travels is that our alumni payed for our trip we have an alumni game every year where the alumni play our current varsity team and they give donations to the team which many are very willing to give to help the sport

On the other point i think its always better to play 1A teams it shows you where you stand against the teams that you could possibly play in the playoffs also many of the upper divsion schools 1A teams play are often not that good anyway
