Has anyone played/scrimmaged Academic Magnet this year, and from those results are they still expected to sweep the lower state in 1A?

Why is that because they never could in 2A. And what makes you so sure they are this dominant force i mean did'nt CC beat them last year.

My cousin got a call up from JV to play varsity for Porter Gaud and AM beat them 4-0, but I'm guessing that PG must still have guys in basketball since he got called up.

Ya'll act like you have david beckham hidden in your little secret closet just waiting to pull him out. It's so stupid. Nobody can fairly say that Academic Magnet will sweep 1A this year because they were beaten by Christ Church last year. And they didn't win anything special in 2A so as far as I'm concerned it's just hype for now.

Thats kinda where I was leaning DCA...if they are as good as they say they are then how come nothing special came of them in 2A. The moajority of our games this year are against 2A teams this year, so hopefully when it comes to playing teams in our own division we will pretty well off...and yes that would include Magnet, if we meet them (which would only be in state)

Do CC and magnet play this year? I know that Emerald plays both. I don't know if they have any more common opponents, but those games should help someone's argument on this thread. In magnet's defense, they did make a decent impact in 2A, but they were always in the shadow of BE. Their impact in 1A will obviously be greater, especially being in lower state. I don't know much about their squad this year though.

heres the real question, why does AM have the worst home field ive ever played on, except for columbia(whose field looks like it has never been mowed, or had grass planted).
AM's field is an elementary school playground. has anybody else been to it?

Academic Magnet was beaten by Christ Church because Christ Church had Tomek. I'm not saying Tomek was their entire team, but he also got a full ride to this years NCAA number 4 school (Duke). Please correct me if I'm wrong. Besides, they only lost 3-2, any game lost by one point could change drastically the next game.

Academic Magnet is just like any other school except it's more challenging. It doesn't focus EVERYTHING on academics. The swim team was third in the state. We sent six XC runners to state. Football is another story, but who cares about football when you can play futbal.

I actually, correct me someone if I'm wrong, but Tomek and another one of their good players Fletcher McCraw were out for part of the season last year and I think at least one of them was out for the Academic Magnet game. I know they were both absent against Emerald last year that's why the game was such a blowout.

Christ Church had Tomek for the Magnet game last year. The final was 3-2 C.C. and it was a balanced game with each team having chances.

Also, let's see... the bus got lost so a 4 and a half hour bus ride turned into almost a 6 hour bus ride. A game that was supposed to kick at 7:30ish, kicked about 8:45 giving Magnet about 15 minutes on the field after stepping off the bus. All things considered, I think a 3-2 loss was an acceptable result. The rematch is Friday, April 1. These are not excusses but a lot of people seem to give reasons why C.C. did not blow Magnet out so these are just reasons that Magnet should get a lot more credit for their performance than people give them.

Anyone who doubts Magnet's success over the past years needs to remember that any lower state 2A team had and still has to go through Bishop England. I think the last time a boy's team other than BE represented the lower state was the Hanahan team of 97. Hanahan won lower state back to back years winning a state title one year (1996?) and runner's up the next (1997).

After all of this talk about AM I really hope that they can back it up. If all of this stuff being said about them is just hype then its going to be a shame.

Christ Church and Southside Christian play on Tuesday at Christ Church. This game is going to favor CC because of the narrowness of the field, but we (SCS) think that of the past 3 or 4 years this year is our best shot.

I heard Christ Church won the game 3-0, but that two of the goals were off bad calls by the refs in the box. AMHS plays CC Friday April 1
