Do you see any upsets out there? Trying to decide which game to watch tonight. Which one should be the best? South Aiken 4 TL Hanna 0 Jamal Geathers struggled finding the net today only scoring the first three. It was probably due to his lack of effort and laziness. You are right lowerstate4a in your early assessment of the Geathers boy. My bad for bagging on you in earlier posts. On a more serious note the team looked great, had most of possession and scoring opportunities. TL fought to the very end and showed a lot of class with their effort. Coach Smith has done a great job with the boys.

The score of the Irmo game is 1 to 1 at the end of regulation. Irmo has outshot Summerville like 22 to 2, but can't put the ball in the back of the net. They better put one away fast in OT, to finish this up...I'll give you all an update at the end of the game.....

Northwestern downs Mauldin 2-0. Holden McConahey scored the Trojans first goal at the 20 minute mark of the first half. Mauldin came out in the 2nd half and picked up the pressure, but was unable to score. Nathan Arroyo found the back of the net with 17 minutes to play in the second half to close out the scoring. Keeper Taylor Crawford recorded the 19th shut-out this season in goal for the Trojans. Great hard fought match by both teams.

Credit should be given to Jamal for scoring three goals, however, Hanna is not a top 10 team. They went to OT against GAFFNEY, begs and Roto. Jamal is good no doubt. My assessment was based on one match against a decent Lexington team. Maybe I will try to make the next match and hopefully he will prove how good he is, and he is good, against the better teams as the playoffs move forward. Stop holding his nuts. You will be aiiight.

N.Augusta beat Greenwood. The score was 4-3. I would hate to have to play this team in the near future. Its funny how good teams play better when they don’t get the respect they deserve? Sort of like good players, isn’t that right Lower? Well-done Jason! Maybe now you and your team will get the credit you deserve or maybe the haters will keep taking shots at the hive and stirring up your Yellow Jackets

Stupid, I mean Lower, Earlier you said that Jamal should have had 3 against a team like lexington because they were not that good. Now you are saying that he couldn't schor against them because they were decent. At least stick to your guns. Also I dont think J has anything to prove to you. He has probably already made you look foolish on the field and you hate on him as a result. And as for holding his nuts. Over 20 goals per season all three years of Varsity soccer at SA. at least he has a pair. What have you done lately?

here are 2 reasons that my 3-0 irmo prediction did not happen. 1 Austin Moody continues to prove to me that he is not in the top 3 goalies in the state. He got caught out of position and got scored on front post. 2 Zack Prince did not solve Irmo's season long finishing problems
shots: Justin Greene 12 Summerville 6 (something like that) the rest of Irmo 10.
Irmo's goal in overtime was probably the worst game deciding call I've ever seen. Me and 2 other referees in the stands all agree that the ball was almost certainly not touched. Maybe the AR saw something that we didn't see though. Irmo certainly deserved to win, but on something like that...

Dutch Fork is not that great of a team...the only credit I give them is that they can pass well. I don't think they deserve a ranking...Our center ref (O'shay) was oblivious and just pointed his hand hoping it was in the right direction...Dutch Fork played cheap, they're probably the cheapest team i've seen all my high school career. There was one time when one of DF's players who kept grabbing our players balls, and finally our player punched the crap out of his face...I hope the team that plays them next beats the crap out of them....

About the Irmo-Summerville game...A very fun game to watch! The intensity level was so high throughout, but Irmo definitely dominated the play after the first 10-15 minutes. The stats on shots pretty much sums up most of the actual threats, but this game had so much emotion. Greene did miss a lot of open goals, I'll agree with benp on that, but I'm going to have to disagree on his two reasons. First, I don't believe that Moody was out of position. It was a free kick, the ball was placed over a defender's head, and a striker ran onto it striking it near post. Not much any goalkeeper could have done about it. Secondly, this is only Prince's second real game back. You can't actually expect somebody to come back from a broken foot and do any more than he has. Overall, a great match to watch. Great job Summerville, you guys played your hearts out. Congratulations to Irmo on the victory, and good luck at Wando!

Hey, SF....why don't you take a look at your signature below your post?
DF outplayed you in every aspect...they deserve a whole lot more credit than your giving them. Its your fault you let them get on your nerves. I hope the next team that plays them has a little more maturity than SF showed...and loses.

Maybe I am not up on the overtime rules, but why do the games not go to PK's after two overtimes? Why do you have it in teh regular season and then change in the playoffs?

Excellent review of the NW-Mauldin game. Both teams played well, with NW being a little sharper and able to take advantage of their opportunites. Mauldin was able to press but was not able to get enough quality shots on goal. There was a light wind that NW had in the first half and Mauldin in the second. Mauldin actually controlled most of the ball in the second half until the second goal was scored. They deflated a little after that, but still hung in there. Any team that does not have overall great team speed will get destroyed by NW. They play a fast paced game and will be hard for anyone to beat. The NW defenders were able to stop Mauldin as they got close to the goal. Overall it was an enjoying game to watch.

SFMidfielder - You are crazy. SF took like 3 shots. If DF could have finished a little, the score would have been 6-7 to nothing. As for being cheap, SF was just plain dirty. AND, the SF fans were the only fans I have ever heard cheer for an opposing player going down, and even yelled "kick him again". I can see where the kids on the team get their class, from the people in the stands. I hope you guys all stopped and washed the region champs off your car windows, OR at least put second round loser below it. Have a great summer.

SFMidfielder... what number were you? Did you even play? Were you even there? IF.. and that is a big IF you were then what were you watching? Obviously not the same game that I was nor the same one that the rest of the people in both stands were watching. That score could easily have been 5-0. I HOPE YOU ARE #13... because if you are then you are UGLY... let me say UGLY. And you cry more than any kid I have ever seen. But other then that I hope that life goes well for you and one day you make it out of South Florence.

Hey SFMidfielder.... you need to listen to your own adivce and.. "Just stop whining like a little boy and play the game like a man..." You were owned if every aspect of that game. Their team ran circles around you and just toyed with you the entire second half. They do pass well. They possess the ball. Usually when teams do that, they outplay you. You were just fortunate that they couldn't finish well tonight. Wanna talk about playin cheap? I believe yall were the ones spitting in players faces, and the ones with the fans who cheered when players were injured. If South Florence is not already in the Redneck League, they should seriously be considered for a spot. We did a little bit of sight seeing on our way in. Saw the highest point in South Florence. Actually we couldn't decide if it was the top of the slide in the McDonalds or the Walmart Supercenter. The reffing situation was really funny though. I was waiting for him to pull out a pack of Malboro Lights and call for a smoke break.

Pataskala: "why is the score only 1-0" I believe you just proved my redneck point for me. When actions happened in the past, you use past tense verbs. In this case you would use the word was. It would be "why WAS* the score only 1-0." The score was 1-0 because yall have a decent keeper, but thats about the only decent thing in South Florence.

pataskala1002, the Ridge View V Hilton Head game was canceled so Dutch Fork does not yet know who they will be playing. It will be interesting for either of these teams to have to play on Friday and then turn around and play Saturday vs Dutch Fork. It would also be nice if the Dutch Fork supporters could be a little more humble and if the South Florence supporters could be a little less sour. I realize that things get heated but the rest of us don't care for your petty bickering.

Now that we are finally back to the subject of this post (which is scores, not trash talk...)
Cardinal Newman 3 Heathwood Hall 0
Fans in the stands thought the Cardinals were never going to score! They just could not get it into the back of the net, but when they finally did, they went ahead and got two more so we could breathe again!!
Some of the best goalkeeping from the HH keeper that I have seen in a long time. He could change direction in a fraction of a second, in mid-air. Awesome keeper!! Clean play by both teams and decent refereeing.
CN will have to wait until after the Wilson Hall/Ben Lippen game tonight to see where they rank in the region (and if there will be a tie breaker game on Saturday!).

RCates....for being an adult, you sure drag this out. You won, let it go. Don't talk about other team's class, it's just not polite....but then again, you don't come across as an overly polite individual. Did you ever play soccer, or are you living viacariously through your children? Be an adult, say thanks for the good game, and go back to announcing for DF. Simple as that.

Soccerboy, you are right, I do announce for DF. As for let it go, I only posted once. The second was my son and was under my name, since I had logged in earlier. I only made a comment since DF was attacked by SFmidfielder. Also, I assume you are an adult since I have gleaned from previois post that you have recently had a child. I am happy for you for that, and I do mean that. Children are the greatest gift. But being an adult, you should stay out of other peoples business. As for playing soccer, when I was growing up, I don't even think that there were youth soccer leagues around. I actually wish that I had played the game in my younger days as I really think that I would have enjoyed it. Good luck to Irmo against Wando, I hope that we play you in the semi's should we be fortunate enough to get there.

If DF does play Irmo, it should be another battle. DF looks to be very good next year, good luck with either HH or RV. Although I have to root against DF in a RV game because I know the coach! At least you guys will get an extra day of rest, may come in handy.

A couple of writeups from the Charleston paper. First, the Irmo - Summerville game: quote: Irmo nips Wave in boys' soccer
BY CHARLES BENNETT Of The Post and Courier Staff COLUMBIA--Summerville stepped onto the field of one of the state's most vaunted soccer programs Thursday night and almost walked off with one of the year's biggest upsets. Almost is the key word.
Irmo's Chris McCartney headed in a goal with less than two minutes left in the first 10-minute overtime Thursday night to lift the top-seeded Yellow Jackets to a 2-1 victory over the Green Wave in the second round of the Class AAAA playoffs.
"Our boys played their hearts out," said Summerville coach Edmund Carson. "I think we sure gave Irmo a run for their money. I think we gave them more than they expected. We had some chances to win."
Irmo (20-2) will play at Wando at 7 p.m. Saturday. Wando defeated West Florence 5-0.
Irmo dominated play in the second half, but couldn't put away the Green Wave. Summerville had few scoring opportunities in the second half, but stayed in it on the strength of its defense.
Irmo outshot Summerville 18-6.
"Sometimes you have games like that where the ball just doesn't go in the back of the net for you," said Irmo coach Phil Savitz. "Summerville fought hard. I'm proud of our team because I thought our second half was one of our most dominating performances against a really good team."
Summerville (18-2) put the pressure on Irmo early into the match by scoring first. At the 32:50 mark of the first half, Summerville midfielder Keenan Miller scored to put the Green Wave ahead 1-0.
"It gave us some momentum," Miller said, "but they took it right back."
It marked only the second time this season an opponent had scored first against the Yellow Jackets.
Irmo tied it with 11:47 remaining in the half on a goal by Sani Hadziahmetovic, who somehow managed to squeeze a shot between defender Kemp Anderson and goalkeeper Brandon Wogamon from close range.
Catching the Yellow Jackets in the second round was obviously a tough draw for the Wave. Irmo has won 15 state championships and has only missed making the state finals twice in the last 18 years.
And now the Wando - West Florence match:
quote: Warriors march on Wando rains goals on overmatched West Florence, awaits Irmo
BY PHILIP M. BOWMAN Of The Post and Courier
MOUNT PLEASANT--It rained the entire evening while the wind whipped through the Wando Athletic Complex at what seemed to be a ferocious pace. One of the stadium's four banks of lights went out for a brief spell in the second half of Thursday's Class AAAA Lower State match against West Florence. Other than that, it was a great day to be part of the Wando boys' soccer family. The Warriors scored early and often against West Florence and came away with a 5-0 victory. The second-ranked Warriors moved another step closer to their goal of winning the state championship for the second time in four years.
Talented junior keeper Taylor Hopkins recorded another shutout, the team's 18th on the year. Just as impressive is Wando's record, which is now 24-1-1 after the victory over the Knights. West Florence finished the season with a 14-11 mark.
The Warriors advance to the third round and will host Irmo at 7 p.m. Saturday. Irmo advanced with a 2-1 overtime victory against Summerville.
"They passed real well, played good defense," West Florence coach Billy Andrews said. "We gave the effort and came up short. They're a good team, what you'd expect from the No. 2 team in the state."
Wando controlled Spring Valley in the first round of the playoffs, but managed only a 1-0 decision.
That was the score just two minutes and 32 seconds into the match Alex Dorsam scored from 18 yards.
"Yes, you say 'uh-oh' when the other team scores that early, but you still have to play 88 more minutes," Andrews said of Wando's early goal. "They got the shots early and played well on defense. That's something you expect from a team that is well-coached and disciplined."
Sophomore midfielder Andrew Eppelsheimer, who scored the only goal of the match against Spring Valley, scored in the 18th minute, and all-American David Newton blasted a goal from 25 yards out in the 26th minute. Mark Dominick rebounded a shot into the net in the 35th minute, and that four-goal cushion gave Wando coach C.J. Rozzi a chance to get everyone in the game.
Kristoffer Helmerson, a foreign exchange student from Norway, scored in the 75th minute and his accomplishment drew a healthy round of applause from those who braved it out to the end.
Rozzi was happy with the victory and with the way the field held up.
"It's always tough to play in conditions like this, but the field held up well and so did we," he said. "When you put the ball on the ground and keep it on the ground, it negates a lot of the wind, the bad conditions. We talked about following up the shots at both ends because you never know what's going to happen in weather like this. If you don't follow up the shots, it just might go in the opposite direction."
But on Thursday, everything went in the right direction for the Warriors.

Good game again SCS.. Ya'll controlled the first 15 minutes, after that we controlled the next 30 minutes of the first half by a LONG Shot. We were on yall's side a whole lot.. Ya'll put that fluke goal on us in the first 10 minutes. Second half was conrolled by us just by a little margin.. Yall finished and we didn't. As a senior I left it all on the field.. I feel good about my playing.
SCS-2 Dixie-0 GOod luck CC and SCS.

Guys, try to leave it on the field. Face it, some Regions play a much tougher schedule than others do. You can see it now! The playoffs are when it shows. There were first and second seeds in some regions that had really never played a powerhouse. It is not truely a reflection on the skill of a team but more a chemistry and quality issue.
Cheer on who beats you.....it helps your team's credibility! Good luck to all who remain in the hunt!

I BELIEVE so far we have two people who claim to have seen the Irmo-Summerville game: one who says the winning goal was never touched after the throw-in and one who says it clearly was.
Are there any Summerville fans/players who will speak up and confirm that it was a good goal?
Just curious....thanks.

I'm sorry we don't ref your games either chris, one of us has been to busy with mls games during his life, and the other two are still in high school and just referee club. As far as it being obvious, I did notice that the center ref had to come over and talk to his AR for about 2 minutes to make sure that he was certain, because the center saw what we saw. I was pulling for Irmo the whole time, I just think they should have won convincingly rather than on a goal that was nothing less than controversial.

I looked at tape of the second goal and can say that it was very close. There was a long throw to the near post and Irmo sent a great near post run. In real time, it looked as though it went over Irmo's head and our defender's and went directly into the goal. I later looked at tape and it looked as though the Irmo player may have gotten a touch. Very close to call, even with the advantage of video tape. It would be very difficult for any referee to call a goal back on such a play. Irmo earned the goal and deserves to play on.

As an IRMO fan I have to say Summerville's Keeper did an outstanding job all night. He was in good position for much of the time and made some great saves. I find it hard to believe that he would have let a throw-in sail directily into the goal, even thou his vision might have been distracted by players. However, whether the goal went in or not it is his job as Keeper, if he believes the ref should have made a call to ask the question. Not to place doubt in the ref's mind, but to honestly question the play. He did the right thing no matter what the final outcome.

Summerville's coach is a class act.
As for you, Belligerent, go stir up some trouble with *GK on the club board...

I'm not chris. i was in the stands as far toward the goal as u can get i had as good a view of the play as u can get. still i would not be sure of the touch except that the ball changed direction. i feel the sideline ref saw the same thing.

I have to agree with what someone recently said about Coach Carson. I am impressed with the graciousness he has shown.
(if only the same could be said about those people hanging out on the sidelines....)
Coach C, if you show your players the same respect, you will surely continue to succeed.
Good luck in the future.

The Summerville keeper has some great athletic ability. he was doing a great job of keeping Summerville in the game. As for the video, in Irmo's video, you can see the ball just get barely deflected. Just enough to throw the keeper off, and the ball went in. Congratulations for Summerville on their great season, and a well fought game right to the end! Good luck next year.

I don't know about the irmo game but Northwestern beat Mauldin last night 2-0. It could have easily been 4 or 5 nil. Northwestern's keeper has 19 or 20 shutouts this year. (i think...but feel free to correct my numbers)

Shearer, I think you're right...I know a LOT of Irmo people, and they are a sneaky bunch. I mean, look at their festival...the OKRA Strut? C'mon...what is up with that? That has GOT to be some sort of code-word....probably for the KKK....notice how there is a "K" in okra? They are probably the ones who started that thread about shooting anyone speaking Spanish during a high school soccer game. Think about it – Irmo’s mascot is the "Sting Man" - that is probably symbolism for whipping those Hispanics to their senses. Who the heck do they think they are speaking their OWN language while on OUR sacred grounds. You know...if we were playing soccer (excuse me, futbol) in Germany, and we made the mistake of uttering English on the pitch, I'd be willing to bet sideliner's right nut that we would be removed forcefully and immediately from the field and strung up by our pinkies. I only hope that President Sanford is able to stop these people before it’s too late....
Please....a moment of silence....

Also: I concur with B-rent..Irmo is an evil place.. any and everything is evil about it.. no doubt.

B-rent - more like lowrent. listen, soccerboy is probably giving you a second-hand account from someone in the irmo camp. that is a bit harsh to speculate irmo being caught up in some anti-everyone else theory/mentality. am i from irmo - no. however, this is about soccer. they won - bottom line. let it go.

I think Jack just figured out how Irmo beats everyone....the secret satellite that controls the opposing team. If they start to win, they just zap them.

I'm at work, but I can send some stuff when I get home. They may question why I have massive amounts of soccer games on my computer if they were on my work computer. I think I am already in trouble with IT, somebody put an amusing link on here the other day, and I got a nasty message saying it was innappropriate due to graphic language and sexual reference. I am sure I will hear about that in a meeting next week....

Coach, you call ME harsh, then call me low-rent? THAT was harsh! I can't win for losing - somebody on another thread told me I was too polite, and now you slam me for being too harsh.
It usually goes against my nature to divulge this type of information (kinda like a magician with his tricks) but I will do it this ONE time.
Listen carefully....my earlier posting about the "Irmo Conspiracy" was pure and unadulterated SARCASM....nothing else.
I tried my best to make it sound SO ridiculous that NO ONE could POSSIBLY believe I was being serious, but obviously I failed. Either that, or you are extremely slow.
The truth is that I am a huge Irmo fan. I have even been on the famed W.C. Hawkins field more than a few times. Heck, I might have even taken my turn holding that State Championship trophy over my head before....

Okay boys, here is a Mom's opinion. I have been watching my children play soccer for the last 18 years..I have coached, I have hugged; I have cried, yelled and laughed! There are a lot of emotions from fans and parents...there are a hundred times more from the players. I give a lot of respect to the boys who go out there every day and play their hearts out. Sometimes emotion and adrenaline take over, but usually it is contained. The best part about this sport, is watching the boys dubbed "RIVALS" and "ARCH ENEMIES" play their hearts out during the match and then hug each other when it is over. You are all champions..I hope you will take this Mom's advice and act that way. As for the adults, remember that we are talking about kids, and whether you are a coach or a referee (Who both unfortunately get berated way too often!) you are a role model for these kids and you need to remember that too. Good luck to all the teams who have played the best that they can, and to the teams moving forward this weekend...play like you've never played before!!! And be proud of the outcome, knowing you did the best you could do.
