But if the Irmo infraction happened in 2004, the law of the game wasn't implimented. I can say that I hate to see the uniform coming off.....it perturbes me greatly! [Smile]

That's if the referee was telling me the right rule. According to CSC, it sounds like next year it would be either/or. So if y'all are gonna prance around with your shirt over your heads and your shorts around your knees, better do it this year. I am still curious to know why the goalie did not receive a yellow as well, if they clearly had the same offense? Don't get into a tizzy over that question, I'm not talking about game outcomes, just a simple question to ask what the difference was.

CSC Girls Rock,

Soft reds.

Article 12.8.2 A player(s), coach, or bench personnel shall be disqualified (yellow and red card) and the number of players on the field shall not be reduced for:
a. taunting-use of word or act to incite or degrade an opposing player, coach, referee or other individual.
b. any delayed, excessive or prolonged act(s) by which a player(s) attempts to focus attention upon himself/herself and/or prohibits a timely restart of the game.
c. subsequent caution.

As usual, it's up to the referee to determine what it is. Yes it can be a soft red, but it is at least a mandatory caution for unsporting behavior.

To Soccermom4eva & Bear:

Roger Hazel for the High School League told us at the coaches/referee meeting that if the shirt went over the head, either all the way off or covering the head, it was a "soft Yellow". So if the shirts of the SA players were above the head it should have been a send off.

Soccermom, it is a red/yellow, you show both cards at the same time to indicate that the offending player can be replaced. Not a yellow or red.

In the Referee magazine they listed the upcoming changes from the National Federation of High Schools and this offense will become a straight red card without exception.

I just wish referees would follow the laws of the game when they are clearly spelled out, like it is in this instance.

Bear, thanks for saving me the trouble of looking that up.

I see the ref's interpretation now - by lifting his shirt up, Geathers was probably trying to focus the fans' attention on the cars out in the parking lot (NOT himself). Musta been reverse psychology - by doing that, he was actually tricking everyone into looking away from him - probably so he could scratch his crotch or something. Smart fella....
