You're thinking Cardinal Newman will win state after loosing all those seniors last year?

scskeeper. You seem to talk about cardinal newman alot, what makes you so interested in them? I don't think cardinal newman will be able to hang with the top in scisa this year, but due to the weakness of scisa overall, they will probably still end up 4th or 5th in state.

CN and BL are always up there but Hammond is strong. But no one really has a keeper that is returning which is a big deal. Heathwood did lose a lot of key players last year but it appears by what i saw last year they have a couple of strong mid fielders and defenders. If they can find a goal scorer im not saying they will win the championship but im saying they will be a team to reckon with.

Keepers will be an interesting story this year. No one has a tested keeper, but I believe ben lippen's keeper will be strong, what about hammond/heathwood/cardinal newman? anyone know anything about their keeper's for this year?

I apologize, I was mainly talking about the upperstate. I had the chance to see pinewood's keeper play a club game for Bridge FA. He is truly a top notch keeper at the state level. Probably the quickest goalie (balanced with talent and brains) in the state.

but back to the topic...i think that this year will be more exciting than alot of people think. The upperstate last year was unpredictable and it sounds like most teams lost a good amount of players except the upstate representative in the championship game..i havent heard anything on heathwood hall? the lower state talent gap is closing in on pinewood. porter gaud should contend and hilton head christian will win alot of games this year. they were the only team in the past 2 years that has not been beaten by p'wood in the region...(tie that got called due to lightning) that snapped a 30 game streak in which pinewood beat its opponet. this is going to be a great year of soccer in SCISA and one that should see some SCISA teams knock of some public school powers. its time that scisa proves that we can compete with anybody.

Brennan Williams is a great, quick player with an excellent touch and good ball control. He has the ability to dominate in the midfield both as a creative passer and a threat on goal. Within the next few years I expect him to excel at USC.
SCISA this year will be interesting. PG lost two good seniors and is moving up a talented younger class that is playing together either on Bridge or at Mt. Pleasant Socccer Club. I have not heard anything from any other SCISA team, but I expect the league to have a strong showing against some pub-school teams this year.

How many seniors did BL loose. I understand their team was strong, just wondering how many will be returning. I know Wayne Sweeten the GK is gone, but anyone else?

Is this Pinewood keeper the same kid they call "Swiss Cheese"? Saying he is quick and smart, it would be hard to believe.

Ben Lippen lost In-Woo Song, Wayne Sweeten, and Jimmy Shin (BL's best players dont consist of any internationals, their best players are all american players...look at all area and all region)

Pinewood's keeper is indeed Swiss Cheese. That was a nickname bestowed upon him in jest while he was the back-up keeper at Pinewood as an 8th grader.

How do ya'll think Porter-Gaud will do this year? I mean all they lost was like 6 seniors and they have a pretty powerful defense and a pretty skilled goalie.

What are the thoughts of Heathwood? I am friends with a coach from there and he said they lost a good amount of player, but are returning a very strong defender and also most of the midfield. Do you think they could make another great run?

I think that Heathwood practically lost everyone do to the fact that about 8-12(maybe even more) of the team was seniors and starters, my guess is that this year might not be the best for them.

To my knowledge Heathwood lost 5 seniors and only four were startes. Those four did carry much of the team but i would not look past them by any means in the season. I think they have three strong players returning a defender whose name is i believe somthing Alpert and a very strong mid fielder Zurcher, and a young mid fielder JB Bell. The rest of the players are un proven. If they find a keeper watch out for another stellar run. But the region seems very close with Hammond returning some, and BL always strong and CN always they lost a ton of seniors also but dont forget about there great mid fielder Matt W. Who do you guys think will make he playoffs from that region?

I would say that BL and CN are probably gonna make the playoffs for sure. Both have had good teams fore several years now. That region has been there's for the taking and losing the last couple of years and I think it still is.

Heathwood Hall should bring back another pretty solid team. The seniors they lost were crucial to the championship run they made at the end of last season. Although i played some on there indoor team this year, i could tell that these guys loved to play together. and yes zurcher and alpie are very solid players.

I dont know... they lost their goalie, who was really good. I mean look at CN last year: great team with a weak keeper and they loose in the semis cause he lets in some weak shots... If HH wants to go anywhere this season, they need to find a decent goalie. Funny though, BL, CN, and Hammond lost their goalies too... should be interesting

csc#12. It is so good to hear from someone so knowledgeable about the game. Long on opinions, short on facts. Yes Cn should do well next year. Let me give you a series of facts, not opinions. CN was ranked by ALL pollsters # 1 last year. Until playing Heathwood in the final SCISA game of the season, their "weak" goalie had not allowed a goal from ANY Scisa team all season. The goal allowed in the regular season was by a sweeeper who tried to keep the ball away from a Highlander forward. He kept retreating from the 18 yard line all the way to the box.I guess he was trying to show off his "superior" ball handling skills. He lost that battle even though the "weak" keeper was screaming "away" several times! The second SCISA goal, again by Heathwood, was the same sweeper waiting stationary at the 18 for the forward to dribble up and manaeuver around he and the goalie for another score. The "weak" keeper was again screaming "away". In all fairness this sweeper made the all region team but is the same one who has let down the CN football team by not showing up for practice and getting suspended. The "weak" CN keeper did missplay a corner kick and pushed it into the goal himself.3 SCISA goals all season, 12 against all oponents, including ranked public schools, only 3 losses. That is pretty "weak" (sarcasm intended) The keeper, sweepers and midfield banded together to make an almost inpentrable wall on defense. What the midfield let through, the sweepers stopped, what the sweepers missed, the keeper stopped. The ideal concept of a team. CN vs BL was a classic game with both keepers making dramatic saves to keep their team in the game. CN 1 BL 0. BL keeper region keeper of the year(a senior) CN keeper (a sophomore) has transferred to a public school. By the way, the SCISA championship game was won in OT because CN players missed their shots, outside the frame, including one from a 8th grader. On paper CN was dominated by seniors but the majority of starting players were sophomores and juniors. If they can find another "weak" keeper, they should do well again. The biggest problem with these type of boards is that anybody, including me, can state "facts". Mine are verifiable, are yours?

why does scisa fan sound exactly like CN's old keeper, cutting down the sweeper, being really hot headed and defensive.

and another thing, which BL game are you talking about. because Cn beat BL at BL in OT..the score was 0-0 and then 1-0 after PK's, but if you are talking about BL at CN, then Bl won 1-0 in regulation.

Remember there are numerous other fans at games. My comments were directed at CSC #12 making a personal attack on one of our players. I never said that CN's keeper was great, just not weak. I said the sweeper made a mistake, but was still a all region player. Hot headed keeper? Are not all keepers a little strange? The game with PK's was the semi game with Heathwood. I was wrong, BL did split with CN in the regular season, each winning away.
My entire point was that the CN keeper was not "weak" just a part of the team. Remember I stressed the importance of team play, not individuals. I wanted you to "give the devil his due" for the shutouts the TEAM recorded and remove the weak from any player. Any weak link in their team would have shown in the long season. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I was just trying to point out a difference in opinion with CSC#12. Some times young people in the heat of the moment will say and do thoughtless things. I was trying to get CSC#12 to rethink his position.

benp, that wasn't me earlier. Yes, I am going to try out for Dreher's soccer team but we all know George Rushe has been their keeper, he is very good and he is a senior.
I will be the first to admit that some shots get by me just as they did Wayne. It happens and it is definitely frustrating. I feel that BL, CNS, HH all lost good keepers.

i will agree with you there (the new collins) all 4 columbia teams lost very solid keepers, it stinks for cardinal newman that you weren't a senior and they still don't get you back. But good luck at Dreher, i'm sure you'll get a chance next year.

I have recently watched soccer amigo play 6v6 at the Plex on the Dreher team. He has excellent reactions and will be a welcome addition to the Dreher team. I definately believe he will get playing time and both keepers at Dreher will benefit from the competition. Obviously the advantage is to George Rushe but he will be pushed to keep his performance up.

This isnt the guys you call Alpie. Im a former player of Coach Graves at CN who went to play at Hampton Sydney. I play with Graves on indoor teams and mens league. I help out at some of Heathwoods practices and attended most of there games and i would argue that Alpie was a strong defender who in most games man marked the top forward on each team. I would agree his ball skills arent the best but I said he was going to be an impact player which doesnt always have to relate to his skills, he is a very strong leader and dure to there youth many of the younger kids look up to him. But to move past that whole thing the CN keeper was weak in the games i saw him in. He could have prevented two goals against HH if he would have just picked up the ball instead of letting the defender making the move. He let in 10/10 PKs against HH and if BL would have put there PKs on from im sure they would have won also. Not to be negative that is my alama matra and i fully expected them to win the Championship last year but it shows how much the keeper influences a team.

bigboy...you stated that you went to Hampden-Sydney college, but yet you spelled it wrong. Also the only person that i know of in SCISA that went to that college and helps coach Graves is coach Player...the HH girls coach...is that you? and if so i'm suprised you would spell your college name wrong since you are being inducted into their hall of fame. and if your not coach player the only other person you could be is the CN girls coach (he also went to Hampden-Sydney College) but i doubt he would help out with HH guys.

huh... thats weird. just found some stuff online about Hampden Sydney soccer. Looksing at a website it looks like the only people that went to Hampden Sydney recently are the two coaches listed above. No worries, they must have just forgot to put you on there or maybe they just spelled something wrong since they have a full time job and all.

Hey MS 17....you are a complete tool. You wanna talk about spelling? When did "looksing" become a word??

You are completely wrog on this one...I don't want to speak out of turn but BigBoy was a really gifted player and I think he won two SCISA titles as a player for Graves at CN. If I am not mistaken he was a capt. of both squads.

Why don't you email Coach Molinary at USC (former HS Head Coach) and ask him if he recruited anyone from CN to HS? His answer will be YES.

Let this one go dude!

Just to clarify. I am currently a freshmen at Hampden Sydney and I play for them too. I graduated from Heathwood and it happens that my assistant Coach played for CN under Graves and also played at Sydney as a sweeper. His name was Graham Wilson. He was on CN's championship teams. Not everything is right on online. Yea Curtis Player played here and so did Berzins but Graves sent several players up here to play.

It seems we have been asking SCISA for an allstar soccer game for a while now with no response. If I am reading this correctly there appears a chance the Shriners may put a NC-SC all soccer game on. Until I hear of firm plans I will refrain from getting excited, but it
appears it could happen, POSSIBLY!

??????. I have heard nothing about hoops or soccer. I only saw this when I was checking out who made the Shrine Bowl SCISA team.
