The only important game is Fort D at Summerville. I dont think Summerville is gonna let this one go past them. I said Summerville 3 Fort D 2

I agree with allfutbol. Summerville will win this one, as will Beaufort and Hilton Head, creating quite a log jam for 2nd in the region.

I think Summerville is a more complete team and should win. Fort D plays good defense and can counter attack very well. Summerville is really good sending the ball in for a header either from a corner or out front. Fort D has good size and they're very well coached, but they are also young. Slight advantage to s'ville since they are at home.

dang everyone picking summerville well they better not come out against FD like they did Colleton County who from what I hear they only beat 3-1 not sure on this. Summerville does want to win to prove they still got a run for the region but with them losing so many players idk

Yeah....Colleton has lost to WA, FD and Wando by a combined 24-1 so I would hope that Summerville could muster up some more muscle against Fort D....

Im predicting the game will end in PK's. Fort has had some bad luck with close games, but hey, let's go for the dramatic ending.

my prediction: S'ville wins in PK's. (even though I really want Fort to win this one)

Thats more than likely the least important of the competitive games amongst decent teams. Summerville wins, but who really needs to know. BC Dreher, and Ben Lippen Cardinal newman are not only probably all 4 better teams than those two, they are also rivalries, and both will be challenging for 1st place in their regions. Due to these two facts, these games are much more important, and will be probably alot more exciting to attend.

I've been waiting on Dreher to have a breakout season for about 3 years. Maybe this is their year. BC will, of course, be a formidable foe.

Dreher continued their streak of scoring quality goals on set pieces, corners, and throws. Their first goal was off a pk, and BC's goal was off a free kick.

Any news on the only important game of the evening? Everyone in the state is on the edge of their seats waiting for a final score. Dreher-BC and Cardinal Newman-Ben Lippen were huge dissapointments, and ended up being boring matches.

Uhh...17-2, ranked #1 for one week, 6-0 in Region, Lower State Finalist, and a final ranking of #4 in 2004 wasn't a breakout season?

The Dreher - BC game was typical rivalry action. John McClam and Thomas Thunell (Quave-Robinson) scored for Dreher and Les Sonefeld hit a seeing eye free kick for BC's goal.

Thanks Ben P...we have 3 of 4 on the road to finish region play so we'll see. All we've really done is hold serve at home.

wow I know
Summerville 3 Fort D 2
Forts starting keeper was injuried 20 minutes into the game at 0-0 than Fort scored than Summerville scored right at the beginning of the half. Fort scored again to make it 2-1 but than a defender for Fort tried to clear the ball out of the box and hit another Fort defender in the head and sailed over Forts backup keepers head to even it at 2-2 with bout 5 minutes left. Summerville than scored on another defensive lapse in overtime to make it 3-2. Fort defianetly should of won but in the end Summerville got the win.

mpscplayer73, sounds like an awesome match. Sad to hear about fort's defensive problems. but just a question, i heard a rumor that fort's backup keeper was suspended for grades? if this is true, who was the replacement goalie? Was he experienced enough for this tough game?

uhh no coach

I realize you're probably three sheets to the wind right now after beating your rival (I would be too) but Les Sonefeld scored for BC. It was more like a bullet than a "seeing-eye" free kick as you so eloquently described it. I really don't even know what that is. Carlos-Farias Perez is Mexican. Les Sonefeld is well, not. The two look nothing alike. Whoever hit your pk scored first (maybe it was Mcclam, I didn't think it was) and then Thunell put in the game winner at the 40:25 mark.

Great match to watch. Both teams really battled hard with Dreher muscling out BC in the 2nd half pretty well. Nevertheless some good HS soccer being played tonight in Cola!

Ever think maybe Colleton played their BEST game of the season? Why is it so hard to give the underdog team credit for stepping up and playing a close match instead of talking like it's the end of the world when the favored team doesn't get a blowout? When you make comments like "We must have played a horrible game if they came that close," you're demeaning the other team when they most deserve some credit. How about a little sportsmanship? Kudos to CC for making your presence felt.

john mcclam did score dreher's first goal off a pk. i think coach rowell would know who his players are, and if he credidted the bc goal to the wrong player it was likely due to a number confusion by the statkeeper, an honest mistake.

Danny Wooderson, what do you have to say about BC's dominance of the region now? I did not want to bring this up before the game as to not have it put on the locker room at BC but the bearcats are 1-6 vs dreher in the last 7 tries. Thats right BC has beaten this senior class once by one goal at BC last year. Hardly what I would call dominating the region.

Shut up:
My apologies on the id of the player. My stats keeper wrote down #7. I remembered #7 and #3 both starting on the ball. One ran over it and the next one hit it, but I couldn't remember who. In baseball, a seeing eye single is a hit that finds the gap in the defense. Sonefeld's free kick "saw" or found a ball width gap in the wall. Hence the use of the term. It was well struck by Les. McClam did take the PK and Thomas Thunell did score on the header.

As far as being "three sheets to the wind"...in reality I'm old and married so I came home after the match to see my family and eat some bbq.

It was a great match and as I said, typical Dreher/BC rivalry action. I believe this makes 16 of 25 matches that have been decided by one goal.

Coach Chass: Your point is well taken. I certainly meant no disrespect for Colleton, as I said they played hard. If you had seen the game, you would understand that HH victimized itself with a lot of individual play and that they got away from playing good, fundamental, team soccer that would have produced a blowout. Frankly, the score was irrelevant to my assessment of how HH played last night. Their first goal was the result of beautiful play. The other two were not. Colleton was quick to capitalize on HH's mistakes and very nearly forced overtime. They have some very athletic young men on their team, but no where near as many experienced soccer players to stay with HH, Fort D, Summerville, or Beaufort playing near their best. Of course, that's why we play the game. George Mason is in the Final Four even though no sports writer in America picked them to get there. The bottom line is Colleton Co. showed up to play and did their best. HH should evaluate their effort last night.

OldRef,
Very well put. Even when a very strong team like HH has an off night, their opponent still has to step up well to take advantage. Having coached on both sides of the uneven matchup situation, I am reminded not to get too caught up in my own team's mistakes to give the other team their due for what they did right. I have a lot of respect for any underdog team that has the tenacity and the drive to put themselves in the game if the stronger team so much as blinks, rather than rolling over and conceding defeat from the start. It's how strong teams are forged...and it helps the best to stay on their toes and not get cocky (and thus sloppy) when they know someone is knocking on the door if they slip.

Kudos to all the athletes and coaches out there who play their hearts out no matter what the odds...it's what love of the sport is all about!
