I just heard from the boys in Italy. They lost today 3-2 to Scandicci Calcio (supposedly semi-pro team). They have a training session with an Italian coach tomorrow and their second match with CS Vittuone on Friday. Before the Friday game, they get an in depth tour of San Siro Stadium (home of AC Milan and FC Inter-Milan). They said Italy is absolutely beautiful and everyone is having a great time. I will give you an update after Friday's match.

I did and will continue to. RCates thanks for the update. What a great trip for your boys. We(BCHS) went twice to Europe in 1999 and 2002 and had a blast. Great team bonding etc.

Sounds like a great result. Tigerman told me on the phone he expected his team to lose by 10 in every game. Will they be able to see an actual match by one of the milans?

In response to benp, they are supposed to get to see the AC - Inter game while they are there.

It was a pretty good result. They boys said they pretty much played scared for the first half and got down early. But they came back with 2 gaols in the second half. As far as the trip, I also am jealous of them being there and me not. Some of the parents were able to go along but alas I wasn't one of them. This is a great opportunity and something that they will remember the rest of their lives. It is pretty funny to talk to my boys. One tells me how pretty Italy is and the soccer is good. The other tells me about the soccer and I have to ask about the places they go. They are both having a great time and seeing the trip in an entirely different way.

Thanks for the interest and I will keep updating this topic with results as I get them, especially once the tournament starts.

The AC-Inter Derby is a crazy atmosphere to be a part of! Those kids will remember that game and those fans forever.

benp... what are you talking about? I wouldn't ever call you, much less say they would lose by 10 every game. But since you are the enfamous BENP, I'm sure that comment was extremely accurate. As for how they will do, I think they will finish right at .500 for the whole week and that isn't too bad considering most of them are just enjoying Italy and playing a little soccer on the side.

We just returned in March and were able to see the stadium and attend a pro match. It will all be worth it. Our trip 10 days 8 nights was well worth it. Good luck to Wayne and D F

Everybody saying that it is a great experience is sooooo right. We talked to the boys for about 1 minute a little while ago. They are totally exhausted. The traveled today, toured San Siro stadium, then played their match. They won their second match 1-0 against CS Vittoune. They then attended the derby and all they would say is it was awesome. Nothing else since it was around midnight in Italy when they called.

First game in Como Lake Cup tomorrow. The play NAAS (Ireland) in the first game. After that, they should have a little bit of down time for a little sightseeing and rest. More updates as I get them.

Just heard that DF beat Carugo Calcio 3-0. That puts DF ahead of Carugo and NAAS since Carugo beat NAAS 1-0 yesterday. Don't have results on the other 2 teams in their group yet. They play again at 4:00 so they are playing right now. More updates as I get them.

DF lost 1-0 to Bresso Calcio. Bresso Calcio is the leader in their bracket. The team they play tomorrow is last in their bracket. If they win tomorrow, I think that they will play for 3rd in the tournament.

Everybody is worn out, but the touring is over. They play there last game and maybe the 3rd place game. Then, Tuesday, they pack up and head for the airport.

Ciao!

OK....This is my last update since all of the soccer is over. DF won their first game 3-0 today to finish second in their bracket with a 2-1-1 record. They played a team from Maine (USA) and beat them 3-0 to finish 3rd in their division with an overall record 3-1-1 in the tournament. DF had a record of 4-2-1 on the trip. They pack up and head for the airport in the morning for the long ride home.

Ciao for the last time!

benp,

We played in the U17 Allievi Category. According to there information..."as a special dispensation, the tournament organizers will allow players from US or English based teams to use U18 players". I guess that is because we are supposed to be inferior. That was probably the correct age for us anyway since 18 of 22 played U17 or below this season.

The 2 teams they played today were Varese Calcio and Dutch Soccer Academy out of Maine. Both scores were 3-0. Our "category" consisted of teams from Ireland (1), Italy (5), Switzerland (1), USA (3, SC, Fla, Maine).

futbol,

You are correct, an unfergettable life experience. They have taken over 600 pictures. I can't wait to see them (the boys and the pictures). And believe me, I am jealous also.

Ciao!

I believe over in Europe they do their age groups differently. Whereas U18 in the U.S. starts August 1st of 1987, they start January 1st of 1987. So all the young lads born from January 88 to July 88 play U17 overthere while they would play U18 over here.

Glad it didn't have anything to do with that ankle bracelet.

Congrats to DF....great experience for them and I'm sure they will use the momentum to carry them deep into the state playoffs.
