Okay..get comfey.

1st Half
Houston starts in goal for Irmo.

Irmo comes out strong and fast 3rd min. after a poor clear..Prince dribbles left..feeds Bedenbaugh with a nice through pass.. Palmer comes out to snuff it. Bedenbaugh dribbles around the outstretched keeper and slides in the first goal of the match.

10th - beautiful shot far post from Daniel..hits off Irmo defender's back..crosses the goal mouth and goes just wide and out.

13th - Acree keeps the blitzkrieg rolling. Cuts through the heart of the Daniel defense and finishes the one on one.

18th - Daniel puts together a nice series of passes..Stephen Tolan finishes a great ball inside the box to the far side net.

27th - Irmo corner crosses to the left side..ball is sent into the six..Garrett Lay squibs through a cluster for the goal.

28th - Tolan receives another beautiful ball splitting the Irmo D. Speeding to a one-one with the keeper Stephen puts goal #2 into the right side net.

35th - Tolan receives a caution.

Passionate play at the end of the half for Daniel. Lots of chances to knot it up..but no go.

Half-time Notes

3-2 Irmo

#5 Seth Kulasekera was a BEAST. Just..totally sick moves and played some great balls to his forwards. Daniel as a team played a great possession game. Seth and fellow junior #13 Sonesh Amin did an excellent job of keeping the pressure..but allowing the team to move as a unit into the attack. Great ball movement and team play.

As for Irmo..they thrived on transition...and Zach Prince led the way. Gobbled up space and made the Daniel defense work hard to keep him from serving balls to the center. It was really great to see the two styles combat eachother..very entertaining half.

Stats:

Shots: Irmo 7 Daniel 9
Corners: Irmo 3 Daniel 2
Offsides Irmo 0 Daniel 1
Saves: Irmo 4 Daniel 3

2nd Half

Houston in goal and would remain there.

First 20 min Kulasekera, Amin, and Prince continue to dominate the field. Seth has a great rip from outside the 18 that Houston watches steam just wide of the far right corner. Moments later Leo Mukofsky puts a one on one with Palmer over the crossbar.

67th - either Cartin or Bedenbaugh plays a desperation ball back to Houston. Houston picks it up..indirect freekick is awarded just inside the box. (You could argue it wasn't a pass back.. regardless..Houston had 30 yards between him and the next man..no need to pick it up..questionable play)

68th - Bedenbaugh receives a yellow forming the wall. Moments later Seth Kulsakera ties it up with a beauty over the wall in the left top corner.

71st - Collision between Palmer, Daniel defender, and Prince? Palmer is carried off the field..not sure how bad it was..I believe his leg..but no EMS was called..and he stayed for the end. Back-up keeper Junior Jeremy Schmutz comes in.

72nd - Kulsakera fires a missle near post from just inside the 18. EXCELLENT save from Houston.

Next three minutes Daniel does an excellent job keeping the ball in their attacking third. Numerous dangerous throws..but Houston comes up big again punching out at least 3 pretty dangerous throws.

75th - Prince dribbles right..as he had all game..Daniel D allows him enough space to get a shot off. Great angle on the shot..past a delayed Schmutz to the far side net.

Stoppage - Daniel turns up the heat.. excellent opportunity goes just over the crossbar. (Couldn't see the numbers..too many bodies)

Ball returns to play..whistle blows.

Final Stats

Shots: Irmo 20 Daniel 16
Corners: Irmo 7 Daniel 4
Offsides: Irmo 2 Daniel 1
Saves: Irmo 8 Daniel Palmer(6) Schmutz(1)

Why can't I ever go to games with that many shots, and that many goals. I always get the 1-0 matches, and the ones that end in pks...

Hats off to both sides..very exciting and entertaining match.

Irmo thoughts: Houston looked pretty good in goal tonight. Definitely a step up from the last time I saw him. Still..there were some scary moments and just poor decisions that kept the match closer than it had to be.
Prince looked good against this midfield and D..seemed like he was always a step ahead.

Daniel thoughts: These guys need more recognition. I've heard very little about Seth and Sonesh..big time Juniors for Daniel. Tolan and the centerback also had a solid game. But really.. I was just impressed with their team play. Moving the ball as a team..passing..just a solid attack and defense. Typical 3A Upstate team I suppose.

$4 for this match was a steal.

LE... you sure Seth is a junior? I thought he was a young senior. He is a very good player I have seen him many times in club and ODP.

Now for the extrapolation, NW 4 - Daniel 0 at the Palmetto Cup, Irmo 4 - Daniel 3.

????

Seth Kulasukera is a junior at Daniel HS. Very good player and nice young man, who I have enjoyed watching in the past two Palmetto Cups.

Is that kid #5 in the midfield? If it was, yeah quality player that holds that team together.

Never mind, I read up and yes!

I wish. The pace of this match was cramping up my hand!

As for the comparison of the NW result. I saw that match too.. and I would have to say that the difference was in the midfield.

D-Dub couldn't buy a 50/50 ball against NW (though they certainly tried)..and they didn't have much more success against Irmo..but enough to keep them in the game.

Also, with the transition play of Irmo/Prince..often that left a lot of space in the mid for Seth and Sonesh to settle the ball and juke a recovering Irmo mid. Northwestern played the ball up from the mid/D so Daniel didn't really have much space/time in their match.

Both Daniel and NW play beautiful balls from the mid and make great runs..NW just did it better..and kept Daniel from doing it.

I will dare to say..that I don't believe enough has changed since the beginning of the year..that if Irmo/NW do meet at State. Northwestern will be able to score just as many..if not more than Daniel did (they have more even talent all over the mid and attack).. and their D is good enough to keep them ahead (not saying Irmo wouldn't score on NW..just not enough).
