During a game last week a player received a yellow card and had to leave the field. When the coach sent him in at the next opportunity the referee wouldn't allow it. The referee said he had to stay out 5 minutes. The coach questioned the ruling and he was told that's what the referee clinic in Columbia told him. The other referee (it was a two man system) talked to the referee and it was left that he had to stay out 5 minutes. (I wonder who was keeping track of the penalty minutes?) There was only about 2 minutes left in the game so the game ended without him getting back in. Anybody else told of the 5 minute penalty at a Columbia meeting?

There is no provision in NFHS rules that state a "time penalty" for a cautioned player. It may have been recommended, but there is no time penalty in the NFHS rules handbook.

That official was in error and it should be reported to Roger Hazel at the HSL.

that is so gay, since when is there a five minute penalty? that ref shouldn't even be allowed to ref anymore!!!

Please make sure this is reported directly to Roger Hazel at the S C High School League. There is no excuse for this happening. Also please send the name of the offical to Kevin at SCSOCCER and we will follow up on this also.

I think we should use the honor system to call penalties. I mean teenagers are definetly able to ref themselves.

if high school soccer used the honor system all games would end 0-0 because they would argue witch team gets to call the coin toss, and never make a decision!!!
