Dreher Devils pulled off the lopsided 9-2 vicoty over Lakewood tonight. I guess Dreher could have put in 20, like Lakewood in its past games, but they settled for nine. J. McClam got 4, T. Thunnel settled for 2, thats all I know. Any report on the N. Myrtle game.

Wando 4 - 1 Irmo
Goals (in order of occurence):
I Jugal Dalal - nice shot from outside of 18, keeper probably should have saved but nice nonetheless W Andrew Epplesheimer - PK (won during a corner) W Mark Dominick - headed it in running onto goal after Irmo's defender passed it back to keeper and Wando gained control W Ralph Lundy - nasty shot from outside of edge of 18, went far post and curled in from long range: beautiful W Brian Anderson - off a cross in the last 2 or 3 mins of game
Both teams came to play and it was pretty competitive, back and forth for first half and then Wando converted most of its chances. Irmo had nice attempts towards the end but Wando defense and keeper came to play.

HH 1 DF 0.. the craziest goal i have ever seen in my soccer life.. Carlos had an amazing side bicycle by a nice play by cristian. DF played very good they controlled the middfield most of them game and had a little more chances thatn HH, but Juan responded 100% and didnt let anything in. When DF keepers was tested he had some problems.

I know this is a repeat final score . . . but Batesburg-Leesville 3 - Palmetto 2 in Overtime
Palmetto went up 1-0 with a great header off of a corner with 27 minutes to go in first half. B-L received a penalty kick which they converted with 3 minutes to go in first half.
B-L received another penalty kick (this one very questionable) with 11 minutes to go in second half. They converted again to go up 2-1. Palmetto scored on a "self goal" off of a B-L defender's header. Miscommunication between goalie and defender led to the two colliding and the deflection into goal by Palmetto. Regulation ended tied 2-2.
1st 10 minutes of overtime was scoreless - both teams unable to finish several opportunities. With about 3 minutes to go in second half of overtime, B-L scored on a breakaway to go up and ultimately win 3-2.
Both teams played hard! Congratulations B-L on the win! Congratulations Palmetto on a great game and season!

Spring Valley 1 James Island 0
Spring Valley with the better possesion and chances throughout the contest. The goal was scored mid way through the second half.
The referee was not qualified to handle this kind of game in my opinion. Things quickly got out of hand as frustration set in on the James Island team and the final 10 minutes were very physical and confrontational.

HH/Dutch Fork was a great game throughout. DF got a few more shots, and kept the ball in the offensive end forever the last 5-10 minutes, but could not punch it in. DF stacked the defense against Carlos and Christian, with a man on at all times and a sweeper behind that. Christian finally got the ball in space on the right side, dribbled by one man, passed up a shot to send a beautiful cross to Carlos who volleyed it in with his right foot- and absolute laser beam past the goalie. Very hard fought, well played match. Very entertaining match throughout. DF came to play. Outstanding!!!

NHS-6 Greenwood-1
Well played match by both schools. Greenwood is a very, very, very physical team and Northwestern couldn't respond to it early as they went up 1-0 at the break. In th second half NHS turned it on. The best play was a brilliant head flick by McConahey to Enzo who passed it to Kropp who tapped it in. Then Kropp played a nasty through ball to Enzo who striked it low and right passed Greenwood's keeper.
Goals:
Enzo Martinez- 3 Goals, 1 Assist Holden McConahey- 1 Goal, 2 Assists Ryan Kropp 1 Goal, 1 Assist Vance Benson- 1 Goal

Greenwood was very physical but I think they got frustrated and just started fouling late in the game as a lot of yellow cards were given to Greenwood.

Lincoln - 10 GSSM - 0
Lincoln showed up with their "A" game. GSSM showed up. (No disrespect for my team intended - 3 hours on the bus is tough to overcome.) We gave them all we could muster, and it wasn't near enough. The best team we've seen this year. Although, Lincoln vs Marion, or Camden might be an interesting game to watch since they have similar styles. Lincoln having better atheletes, Marion and Camden having more skills/experience. My hats off to Lincoln Coach and their team. Good Luck vs AM.

The goal scored by Carlos may have been one of the nastiest I have ever seen. Well played game by both teams. The previous accounts were pretty accurate, but I think it needs to be added that the DF defenders did an excellent job all night. Handling those two amazing forwards is a huge task and Kipp Amaker and Steven Goulet marked the two of them very well for almost the entire game and Nicky Cates did a good job cleaning up anything that got behind them. With forwards that good it's almost impossible completely eliminate their oppurtunities. Hilton Head capilalized on their oppurtunity and Dutch Fork was unable to capitalize on theirs. Anyone who saw that game can attest to the fact that Kipp Amaker deserves to be an All-State selection. He's an amazing defender and was able to limit the oppurtunities of arguably the best forward in the state. Good luck to Hilton Head in the next round. With forwards as talented and backs as big as physical as they have, if they are able to compete with teams in the midfield I think they have a legitimate shot as representing the lower state. Once again, kudos to Carlos on one of the nicest goals i've seen.

DFs keeper was a bit off when tested i agree, but even if he hadnt been having an off night no one wouldve saved that goal. it was so nasty.

I agree with everything that has been said about the HH/DF game, but do not think that the DF keeper had that much trouble. There was one high ball that he arguably should have caught, but put it over the bar instead. In any case, he kept everything out - except the one shot that no keeper would have stopped. If anything, the defender should not have given Carlos room to make that move.
DF was not outplayed. They created many more opportunities than HH, were a bit unlucky on a few opportunities and controled the midfield for the most part. Chris Sankowski was outstanding, but Juan Chavarria, Josh Ford, Kenny Freeman and Justin Fox were strong in HH's back as well.
What are Amaker and Goulet's numbers on DF? If they were the two marking Carlos and Christian, they did an outstanding job. Carlos is the quickest player that I have seen play in high school this year (before anyone comments - I have not seen NW play), but the DF defender gave him little or no space all night. The player on Christian was strong, just as fast and positioned very well. That matchup alone was worth the price of admission.
All in all, it was a typical HH victory - not really sure how they won, but they capitalized on enough opportunities, played strong in the back and were lucky enough when it mattered.

Pendleton - Walhalla match was an extremely even contest once again.
Walhalla scored 10 minutes in on their lone scoring opportunity of the half while Pendleton controlled the run play. Second half was much more in Walhalla's favor but neither team could generate much offense. Final goal came with under a minute left on a penalty kick.
Congratulations to Walhalla and Coach Preisig.

lfc: As usual, your soccer IQ is very high. I disagree only in I believe the midfield battle was even most of the night, with the exception of thhe last 5 minutes, when HH didn't get the ball out to the midfield. I thought DF did a good job of taking Paul out of the game, even though he played well. Juan made a couple of nice saves, but James had a shot skid off the left bar from close range. DF might have taken more shots, but HH had more good scoring opportunities. DF's defense did a great job, and they put tremendous pressure on the ball all over the field. The game was played very fast and very physical. I believe the strength of HH is their interior defense (Ski & Justin), but Kenny and Josh played great on the outside as well. HH now has 13 clean sheets and 5 1 goal games. They have only allowed the one goal vs Beaufort since the tournament(without Justin). The Wando rematch should be awesome.

I would have to agree on the DF/HH game. Very physical and the pace was very high. I did think that the DF midfield controlled the game a little better than HH. The matchup between the DF marking backs (Kipp Amaker & Stephen Goulet) with Juan and Christian was as good it gets all night. It was amazing to me that as good as the forwards for HH were, they only managed Also, the center back, #5, for HH controlled anything in the air in the box. All in all, a great matchup. Good luck to HH in the rest of the playoffs.
