Now that the season is about to come to a close, here is a serious question.

The refs have been lambasted all year, especially here on this forum(especially by me), but with all the bad/wrong/missed calls, how many of you have seen/played/coached a game where the officials cost your team the game?

Most all of the games I have seen this year have been decided by players and fortunately not by the officials, your thoughts..........

If you feel there should be one, feel free to start one! I'm just asking opinions from all the people who have complained. I stated mine, so unless you have one, get your girlie butt out of my thread! Besides if officials are busy monitering the coaching/fans/individual players, well then they will be comdeming themselves, as they should have been focusing on the play not the surroundings!

I've seen a good bit of games this year.. from the Upstate..to the Midlands.. high profile tournaments and dinky "who cares" matches.. playoffs..regular season..2A, 3A, 4A.

And I will say NOT ONE match was decided by a refs call..or non-call.

This thread is about to get loaded up with a bunch of fans and parents that think the refs hate their little sweet heart..but after seeing some of the games that people feel were "stolen" ..I feel stronger than ever that refs have very little to do with the outcome of the game.

I will say though..that officials in SC need to step it up..but so does the quality of play..and coaching. We all have a lof of work to do.. the refs are just the easiest outlet.

The best team USUALLY wins.. sometimes there are upsets..and when teams are evenly match.. well hell..SOMEONE LOSES!

There have been multiple times..during a match I've thought "holy sh** that's a horrible call..I have to talk about it later" ..and then once I got to a computer..or on the phone..I'd totally forgotten about it..because as an impartial observer..the play overcame the officiating (which is how I feel watching most professional/international soccer)

That's my 75 cents.

Agor, thanks! That was the point, to show that even though some people feel that the officiating may have been bad, it never cost anybody a game, which would be a travesty.

Thats the kind of answer I was looking for Jack, and you said it, "the play overcame the officiating"!

Does anyone have any thoughts as to why this idea of 'bad refs' is so much more prevelant in high school games? Could it be the fans who are at fault? We see a lot of the same faces reffing in club ball, and yeah, there are some moments, but none of the vitrol you see in the spring. [Confused]

Chuck, I'd be surprised if most comments aren't like Jack's. I ref and Jack just saw me a week or so ago, yikes...really for me, reffing is a blast! I get the same exhileration I had as a player...a few years ago...actually basketball. As a ref, I don't mind the *****ing on difficult calls, what drives me truly nuts is when a coach, player or fan starts on the first play and continues incessantly. Bad throw (which few understand) hand ball (that in no way was hand to ball), get his hands down...gosh, lobby me for calls, but do it on the tough ones not every move on the field.
The best refs are "consistant" so the players quickly get a feel for the calls and play accordingly. I hope I do that...mostly, I really enjoy the reffing and hope to continue.

Bob - Hate to bring you out here in public. But I can't hold it in any longer. You royally screwed Lugoff-Elgin last week. All 7 of Seneca's goals were offsides..and half the team should have been red carded in the first 20 minutes!

[Razz]

ps - too bad D-dub didn't make it past Riverside. I was looking forward to seeing the Lions at Stone. Cheers.
