I will make a concession upon further review that Dreher has played Wando and Dutch Fork (two of top four 4A's), but Riverside and Eastside have tougher schedules and more quality victories. So would you drop Greenville High after loosing 1-2 in pk's last night to number one Riverside?

In a strip-down-to-the-bare-naked-basics world, rankings do not even matter. They are great for confidence, conversations, bathroom material, filler in a newspaper, and even employment opportunities (see BCS founders). But whenever they seem to ruin our desposition yet another Sunday afternoon, we can always find comfort in knowing that no one (save the hsl) can take away from your region record and playoff seeding. The state champion gets the #1 seed and no one can argue that.
P.S. If that doesn't help, use the immortal words of an old Anderson football coach..."Polls ain't good for nuttin' but dogs to pee on."
P.S.S. But Kyle and Kevin, I see all the work you put into those every week and we thank you for the time and effort you've put in towards Palmetto soccer to make it what it is today.

How are the other seedings in the playoffs determined? Specifically A/AA, because there it is not as cut and dried as 3A and 4A.

Rankings really don't matter at all. In the end it won't matter what rank a team is, just whether or not they win or lose. As for you parents who are arguing over it, ask the players how much they really care about them.

I absolutely agree that the rankings are essentially meaningless. The are sot of entertaining and maybe a little motivating for the players. I would disagree, however, with the assertion that Riverside and Greenville have a much harder schedule than Dreher's. At the beginning of the season Dreher was scheduled to play Riverside and Bishop England, both of which got rained out (the BE game was rained out twice!)As was pointed out above, Dreher met Wando in the Viking cup and tied 2-2 and played Dutch Fork, losing in pks 1-2. Just remember that sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander, so if G'ville drops in the rankings after losing to Riverside in pks, remember they are meaningless.
Not to put too fine a point on it, look at West Florence's schedule (ranked above Dreher at #5). They have won two games against ranked teams(both Flora) and lost to Cardinal Newman. The combined results of their opponents is 72-94-2.
If we're going to have rankings, meaningless or not, they should be fair and consistent.

We'll probably understand the rankings a little more when you figure out the Yang-Lee-Fisher theory of phase transitions . Good article on AC in the Metropolitan! Is she still wrestling?

There is a poll that matters and it is the last one. Anyone disagree?

Nobody had any reflections on my Stephen Hawking expanding universe theory of preseason polls, I doubt your Yang-Lee-Fisher theory will move the crowd much either. Take care.

lpaf,
I have made one concession already. Expanding universe, Yang-Lee-Fisher??? I must have cut class on those days to hit the lake.

You did the right thing. The lake sounds like a great idea to me rather than struggling to decipher the polls. The Edisto river might be pretty good, too... where's that bug repellant?
