I went to see my niece play - a sub for Wando. Great game. Wando dominated 1st half. Then they tried to just not lose in second half. W Ashley's keeper had a great game. Score could have been a lot worse.

This was a game of two halves Wando came out and took it to West Ashley, for the first 20 minutes West Ashley was on its heels. Wand got a break when a penalty was called (questionable). Wand continued to press and got the second goal 10 minutes later. West Ashley made adjustments at the half and came out and put the pressure on Wando, That pressure paid off when Julie Bolt scored a nice header five minutes into the second half. West Ashley's pressure was relentless in the second half only the keeper from Wando and the post kept West Ashley from tying it up. West Ashleys keeper made a couple of key saves in the second as well. This was a well played game. It should be fun in the playoffs.

Agree it was a good game by both teams. Momentum did swing dramatically in second half as Wando went into a defensive mode to protect its lead. However, the only question about the PK call was that ref only called 1 of 2 handballs in the box by West Ashley.

i agree but Wando had at least one in the box as well, all we need is some consistancy from these refs

West Ashley needs to look at what has worked well and what hasn't in their play against Wando. Keeping the most aggressive athletes up front is how they've scored all three of their offensive goals against Wando. Meech Gibbs, Julie Bolt, and Lexis Brothers as forwards keep the offensive pressure on Wando. Julie played much of the first half at mid and just isn't as useful to the team in that position as she should be. Coach McNeely, I think, is still looking to see what his strongest combination on the field is. Danielle Jordan's play was, as usual, outstanding, and Alechia Brothers in goal looked like an olypian on two saves.

ps: Has anyone else noticed that Region 7 is the only lower state region to have internal play in the first round of playoffs? (#1 vs #3). Why didn't they decide to go outside the region for more variety in the play?

Where are the playoff seedings posted? That doesn't sound right to me either.

My error. I must have looked at the brackets wrong earlier. The site is the South Carolina High School League website. The link is on the SCSoccer home page. Then go to 2002-2003 Playoff Schedule. The actual first round playoffs are Region 7 #1 vs Region 8 #4, Region 7 #2 vs Region 8 #3 and Region 7 #3 vs Region 8 #2. Sorry for the mistake. First round is May 5.

I agree completely that this was not one game but two, with Wando dominating the first half and West Ashley dominating the second. Coach Ferguson did a good job of blunting WA's momentum late in the second half with his incessant substitutions. West Ashley will have to take the aggressive offense to Wando earlier and longer if they meet again.

ps: Brother's play in goal in the second half was truly awesome at times...

I don't know what happens if conference records are identical. Maybe Kyle could help us. Lot's of soccer left to play between now and playoffs. 50/50 chance James Island beats either Wando or WA in my opinion. (Friday and Tuesday, respectively)

It also looks like West Ashley is a 1/2 game behind. Did they make up their rain out game?
Agreed there no games to take for granted.

WA v Stratford at Stratford tomorrow (Thursday). Has Wando made up thier S'ville game or does that one not count as it's not in the region? James Island is not to be taken lightly. Two distinct defensive errors made the difference in their loss to Wando. And their style of play is much like West Ashley's: scrappy and opportunistic with great athleticism in a number of the players.

Since it was non-Region they aren't going to make it up. James Island is a lot like WA. My neice says they (Wando) are real focused and don't want a repeat of their close call at James Island.

I agree that Wando can not over look James Island, i really think that James Island has a great chance in this match up. James Island has to be able to contain Wandos offensive pressure and be able to counter attack, James Island has the speed up top and can control the midfield, this game is a must for James Island to have a chance to win the region, then they have to turn around for the rematch with West Ashley. This should be a fun last week of the regular season.

In the event of an identical region record in which games are split, they look at who allowed the least amount of goals in head to head matches. The next step I belive is to see who has allowed the fewest goals in the region. That's our policy I believe.
