just out of curiosity, what is your record for the most saves you've had in one game?

198? You're making that up, right? Sorry to see the Yellow Jackets' early departure from the playoffs. How good was Spartanburg?

I might have exagerated a bit by one or two. Long ball with a supportive pinched midfield was neutralized by fantastic wing play. Help is on the way, though, as the Anderson club scene is ready to start year 2. 2004-2005, we'll make you proud. Is WA going to shake off the rust and explode through the playoffs in rare form? Intriguing minds want to know...

198... thats crazy! more than two saves per minute. was that typo because i cannot even comprehend how 198 saves are possible in one GAME.

Far be it from me to predict how far West Ashley will go in the playoffs. Last year in winning state they played every game from the bottom seed position, and all their playoff games were overtime wins except the state final. I'd rank WA, Wando and JI as virtually even in their chances of winning lower state. I'd also not count out the other top ten teams: DF, RNE, Summerville, Irmo. Anything can happen.

What I'd tell the girls is the following: It's not the size of the girl in the fight that counts but the size of the fight in the girl. Wando players put their shorts on one leg at a time just like everybody else (though they do drive nicer cars and have straighter teeth). Quitters never win and winners never quit (or they wouldn't win). Every moment is precious. And precarious.... When the situation is desparate it's too late to be serious. Try having fun instead.

i dont really keep track of that stuff b/c you can't tell a keeper's ability by looking at the number of saves they made in a game! If you make 500 saves in a game but they were all your basic step to and catch... what does that show about a keeper's ability? Compare that to just making 5 really challenging saves.. you know.. the ones you get up off the ground with the ball in your hands and hear the stands yelling your name.. which would you prefer? Not being rude in any way.. im just saying.. it is something to think about

Hey Jess, You played outstanding last night against Brookland Cayce. I have to rank you at the top of all the games I have ever seen, for the most saves of a goalie with a good defense (48 against that Georgia team). I can't perceive anyone making 198 saves against a team, if their is a defense in front of them! When you went on the field to play offense in the last 10 minutes, you had the fans on their feet. You were worth my admission fee! Good effort by most of the Carolina Forest girls, keep your heads up, and good luck in the future. Good luck to Brookland Cayce in the rest of the playoffs! They have a few outstanding players that could take them them into the next round.

It appears that I should have gone slightly higher in my exageration of saves to remove any doubt that I was merely being jovial. Meghan Hughes had 19 and kept a large loss from becoming larger. With a sophomore at sweeper and two freshmen at backs, she's done more than her share all year. Mauldin vs. Dutch Fork/Wando/Summerville/West Ashley is my guess in that order. I'm sure you will all agree my selections are completely validated seeing how I haven't seen a single mentioned team play this year, save Mauldin.

I've seen Dutch Fork, Summerville, and Wando.
From those three, I'd go with Wando. Very organized and disciplined team play. Apparently very well coached.

coastal 14 (still dont know who you are) - thanks again. yea.. against the GA girls was tough.. they took 56 shots.. made 4.. i had 52 saves. BC was really good. it was a tough game, and we played our hardest. that was the best we could do.

I would have to agree with gkeeper12 in that a keeper's ability is not determined by the number of saves that she makes. My team tends to make keepers look very good by shooting it straight to the keeper and in those kinds of games I rarely touch the ball. A keeper's ability should be based on the quality of the saves she makes and how well she organizes her defense so that she only has to make the minimum amount of saves because her defense is doing their job. I would have to say that it is about quality not quantity!

It's not fair to judge a keeper by their saves. One, teams sometimes shoot directly at the keeper. Two, if your teams defending well, then you shouldn't have to make a lot of saves. That's partly the keepers job b/c they should be directing play and stopping potential shooting opportunities before they start by directing the defense.

i do agree that quantity is better then quality, and im not saying that the number of saves reflects a keepers ability. i was just curious...
