I, lpaf, viciously attack the skinny white boys formerly coached by CJ Rozzi from Wando (god knows he did well with the raw material he had to work with) for thier fair weather support of the Wando girls and their eventual claim to a small but not negligible share of the Lady Warriors' state title. I accuse dtpplayer of being a stage name -- he (or she) responds with grunts about the best team winning and benifitting from clearly genetically supperior crowd support. S! disavows any knowledge of the deal going down. R!C raves about his Swedish girlfriend and her northern european skills. Mark Campbell re-analyses the demographics of the upstate, midlands and lowcountry as a function of the interstate mileage in each region multiplied by the product of the square root of the SAT scores of the graduating seniors and their bra size in metric measurement. SoccerMom reveals Summerville's secret plan to dominate state soccer at the peri-adolescent boy's level. Elcid explains why the Citadel hasn't really had any competitive teams except men's baseball in the last decade. (Go Coach Jordan!). Charlie Condon explains that he isn't really a vampire, regardless of appearances. Coach Ferguson reviews... well I don't quite know what CF is reviewing but congratulate him on his state championship. ELF blames me for his acronym and explains the nuances of a well executed kip... I know it seems like a lot of information but I have done the best I could by memory. Opposing viewpoints are encouraged.

For a guy who abhors the brutality of boys soccer
you sure act like you watched a lot of Wando's boys' team to have such an opinionated view of them.
p.s. - you forgot to mention that you have started putting cute smiley faces on your messages.

p.s.s. Thanks for the recap.

Oh, the gloves are off and the chip is on my shoulder. I would have at least thought I deserved some mentioning about overcoming the geographic limitations of our program, maybe an upstate remark, or even something related to being from Aiken. I see my significant other has once again taken the light from my stage. Just for that, I have changed the vacatation site to Hilton Head. Brown water and retired millionaires, that's the life for me.

As long as I知 being accused, quite inequitably and yet no doubt precisely, of a plethora of juxtaposed and discombobulated utterances that renders me a flibbertigibbet, I thought that I would attempt to abridge the aforementioned conversation in a manner befitting its semantics.

whoooo, hoooo, we be the bes置ns.
eeeeee ahhhhh, nope!; we置ns is the bestest.
nuhhhh, uhhhh, we the bestest of the bes置ns.
uhhhh, and you置ns stink cause the lowstate痴 water stinks.
huhhh? you置ns stink cause midstaters hate baths.
mmhh! we置ns in the upstate know y誕ll all stink and only play boom ball.

I would be remiss in noting that any abridged version tends to mitigate the scintillating wordplay displayed herein and therefore I abjectly apologize for any perception of insolence on my part.

Oh, yes. I must support my close friend and will him to coach to victory. Individually as Mauldin we may be weak, but the sum of our parts will surely conquer the uninhabitable lowerstate. Speaking of S1, where is that no good neighbor of yours?

You must be in the same scenario as I-two month break ahead of you and boredom whispering her sweet ideas into your ears. Careful with her advice, you'll be making gasoline art in the center of Wando Stadium in no time. HH is old news, i've been researching the fruitful and prosperous land of North Charleston. Seems I cannot go wrong provided I practice up on my roundball game.

Just a lull. To Austin and Regionals in June. Ah... June in Texas. Kind of like Paris in April. Sorta. North Chuck is a city struggling to define itself. Round ball is certainly part of the makeup.

Regionals. One day my players and I will have this discussion. I spent several years of my life in that state. Once the other team starts screaming "Remember the Alamo!" it's all over. Just a forewarning.

After further research, again the plans have changed. I've heard about a nice little place where everyone seems to know your name. The smiles are brighter and the people friendlier. Its called Mt. Pleasant. Know much about the area? (This is gonna be greaaaaaat!)

I don't think it was spit.

Nobody (with the possible exception of VFW reunion groups visiting the Yorktown) vacations in Mount Pleasant. It is a sort of gateway to Sullivan's Island, IOP, and Historic Charleston, but outside of tony upscale subdivisions replete with selfcontent east of the cooperites, upscale shopping and some good restaurants there is little to do there. Mount Pleasant, as such, has no soul. The name itself is a deception. No mount anywhere to be seen and outside of the above mentioned amenities little pleasant. You can spend hours in bumper to bumper traffic... Oh well. Think about going up the coast a bit to Awendaw for a bed and breakfast or, one of my favorites, Myrtle Beach. Crass comercialism at its all american best.

Lpaf,
Come on over to the Land of perfection. Ferguson may even let you cheer for Wando!

R1C - come on down and enjoy . Lots of ways to enjoy the water besides going across the InterCoastal. However, I will admit there is a lot of traffic around the various orthodontists' offices .

p.s.- I cleaned this up from my orginal - briefly forgot that Lent never ends!

I cannot figure out which of you is the Emperor and which is Darth Vader.

Choosing my vacation site based on your descriptions is like choosing my favorite writer. Humorous Mark Twain and Folly Beach, perhaps Posh Fitzgerald and M to the P., or the largely commercialized world of Tolkien and Myrtle Beach. Alas, I shall pee into the wind and head to aruguably the greatest place on earth, even if it means ultimate unhappiness. Hemmingway and Aiken. To the saltlick M'Cola!!!

Mostly Australian wines. I'm fond of shiraz, if I do say so myself. On a more serious tourist note, do you think that Mt.P is used for much more than a gateway destination when it comes to tourism?

My most sincere congratulations to the two Wando Seniors honored today by SC High School Sports Report: Lou Hudson -- Girls' AAAA player of the year, and Kelly McGinty -- Miss Soccer. Wando will, I hope, have a hard time replacing them on next year's team.

Sorry for editing my post again. Anyway I will concede that the tourists probably only know MP as a hopping over point but the blessed who live here know all the great ways to enjoy other parts of E. Cooperism. 17 is a p.i.t.a. - I will attest.

Obviously the girls had a good year. Not going to ruin the afterglow by talking about next year yet!

I do not profess to know all the ancient lore about our fair town but I have encountered a slight rise in the terrain in Old Village. Perhaps old dunes. elevation can't be more than 20-30 feet above sea level but to those early charlestonians (who lived below sea level) it may have looked like a mount!

No, an upstate transplant, though in 27 years here I have pretty good roots. I checked with my office compatriot of old Charleston stock and he concurred on the slight bluff in the old village theory.

Come on R!C, you're being coy here. Anyone can see you're earlier quote "I spit in your general direction." is a close paraphrase of the exchange between King Arthur and the French castle guard in Monty Python's Search for the Holy Grail. It's part of cinematic comedy's greatest dialogues:

French Soldier: "I don't want to talk to you no more, you empty headed animal food trough wiper! I fart in your general direction! Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!"

I am sorry. No, my quote was not from the movie (intentionally), but from an old "Tenacious D" song about Superman. Mighty Python is a film they should make into a very detailed book, in which both are a state standard for all public school grades are made to see, 6-12.

Why have you not found the origin of my quote concerning M'Cola??? Surely one of your extended knowledge would see through my attempts to impress with American Literature! Oh, maybe it is the Blue Ribbon creeping in my veins that demands so much of you. Fine, think about Green Hills.

Sorry, I haven't had the pleasure of making Tenacious D's acquaintaince. But if you weren't referencing Monty Python, chances are good TD was. I agree about Monty Python being required viewing. (It isn't???)

"Hemmingway and Aiken. To the saltlick M'Cola!!!"
I had kind of figured Ernest had been relegated to the inappropriately politically correct trash heap of mid 20th century English literature. Afterall, he celebrated male dominant violence over nature. (Poor fish billfish and bulls!) I will be quick to admit that the "M'Cola" part both eluded and still eludes me. But overall there is about 50% of your commentary that I don't understand and I just dropped this into that category. My shortcoming, I have always figured, and not yours. "Saltlick" was interesting in someone with Aiken connnections given the equestrian connection, but I couldn't get it to point anywhere in particular. Take care and enjoy your vacation. Heaven knows you've earned it.

Sigh. That is the last time I try to use "Green Hills of Africa" to try and impress someone. I finally read a book and there is no one to celebrate with. Maybe I can make more translatable comments if I took up Sand Castle making. Until next week...

How about a couple from "A Fish Called Wanda";both of which involve the Kevin Klein character Otto. Otto: "I read Nietzsche." Wanda: "You read Nietzsche but you don't understand Nietzsche."

And the scene where John Cleese's Archie tells Otto "You are a true vulgarian" and Otto retorts with "You're the vulgarian you f***." I've taken the literary license of including Dudeman's astericks in my text.

How do you put ****** in a Works Cited page?

Just came in from my tour of Charleston County. Stayed in North Charleston (hmmmmmmmmm), visited Folly on Saturday, Isle of Palms on Sunday, and Sullivans on Monday. That area is like its own country. I'm amazed that you have not adopted your own regional dialect, followed by years of civil war that ravage the land.

Hope your visit to the lowcountry was enjoyable. Which of the communities mentioned still appeared war ravaged? Rivers Avenue and Ashley Phosphate in North Charleston and 17 North between the Cooper River Bridges and 526 would be my candidates for that title. As for regional dialects, did you talk to any locals?

My comments were to insinuate that there are a great deal of differences in that one area. For example, while in Mt. Pleasant I had a unusual experience. For the first time ever I had a gas clerk look down her nose at me. Another point of interest was driving down 5-something or 7-something on the way to the beach, I had a Lexus SUV in front, BMW SUV to the side, and a four dour Mercedes behind. *Note to reader-the Mercedes was a bit older and a Diesel* While doing the scenic bit with the significant other on Sullivans, I noticed a monumental difference in the quality of houses stationed there as opposed to Isle of Palms. Crossing over the bridge brought to light a sudden upgrade in residential homes. On a stroll, I commented to a man that I thought his house was lovely. Looking insulted he said "That is my shed. That (turning to the adjacent structure resembling a hotel) is my house." However, those good people allowed my dog on the beach despite here severe bowel movements from drinking salt water and having numerous enema-giving waves crash on top of her.

Folly seemed a bit laid back and more middle class. Many, many, many young folks there. Some very nice and well kept houses there (read b/t the lines). The dog could not come and was relegated to the hotel, however, save for the hours before 10am and after 6pm. I did see one naked hispanic baby streak past my chair while sunning.

All jokes aside, the place was beautiful. I tried to figure out the school zoning areas. For instance, I assume the downtown houses and surrounding areas are WA, with JI (obviously) and Folly being JI. All of Mt. Pleasant and that side of the river being Wando. My curiousity is about North Charleston. Is that where NC high school and Stratfod both are? Where are the residents of R.B. Stall plucked from?

Don't forget to Go Fish with Henry Fishburne and vote for some very attractive man named Ravenel.

School zoning for Charleston County:

A somewhat small but concise picture of who goes where is at the following address http://www.ccsdschools.com/districts.cfm?subject_id=2&district=4#4 .

Wando is suburban East of the Cooper, including resort communities of Sullivan's Island and the Isle of Palms. James Island is JI and Folly Beach. West Ashley does not pick up the peninsula (old Charleston) but rather takes in the west bank of the Ashley along highway 61 (immortalized by Bob Dylan) and extends out along the near Savannah Highway. Downtown Charleston is Burke HS, known perhaps more for basketball than soccer. Most of the kids from the affluent areas of old Charleston go to private schools Porter Gaud (no r's -- "poh taw gawd"), BE, Ashley Hall or the excellent public magnet school Academic Magnet, located in North Charleston.

Up toward North Charleston you have RB Stall HS to the west side of I 26, North Charleston HS to the east of I 26, and Hanahan HS which must be Berkeley County but is situated close to North Charleston and for the time being still picks up all the kids, I think, from Daniel Island (the new peninsula).

Stratford HS is further up I 26 just to the east of the interstate and Goose Creek HS is closer to the geographic center of Goose Creek, where ever that is.

John's Island is Johns HS (to the west of JI), and further still down highway 17 to the west is the hinter lands of Baptist Hill HS serving Edisto Island, Hollywood and Ravenel. To the east of Wando is the rural area of Charleston County extending up highway 17, and Lincoln HS.

BE is the interesting anomaly in this picture, competing at the A - AA level but with a large geographic draw that extends far beyond the reach of any public HS, considerable affluence and a rich soccer tradition.

Hope that helps. Anthony Pelton or one of the other lowcountry coaches could probably refine the picture a bit.

You pretty much nailed it.
Don't forget... Summmerville is Summerville and Fort Dorchester is the other side of Summerville, along Dorchester Rd,past NCharleston.

Come on... R!C tried to give the "downtown" soccer players to WA. We needed a primer here. I did think about extending into Dorchester and Colleton counties, but just didn't have the wherewithall to do it. I did forget to mention that BE sold what was some of the most valuable property in "Old Charleston" to the College of Charleston in order to buy what had to be some of the most expensive property on Daniel Island...

Now, can someone explain the line between Traveler's Rest and Pumpkinville to me?

No, It is always enjoyable to read any sort of post this time of year. We have growing concerns in our area of the Wren High School commnunity. Many posh, ritzy, high-level-club-affording parents have sought refuge in this community outside of Greenville and Anderson. Powdersville (sounds more like a Johnny D movie) has the "Rich White Athlete" that tends to do so well in soccer. Funny thing is their football team is horrendous, but the basketball team shows quite well. Got to work on those border lines...

Wren to 4A next year? Interesting...

My compliments to lpaf on this thread for keeping things jumping in boring times. It has it all - from a Neil Young quote (or is it Neal Diamond? I don't need either of them around anyhow...) to a bit of regional conflict to keep things spicey some coastal education for those who think Charleston is just Rainbow Row, and some culture in Monty Python. Can't believe I missed it. Trying to earn a living has gotten in the way of my priorities...

The Travelers Rest, Marietta, Pumkintown and Cleveland (no lake) boundaries remain much in question. The markers keep getting moved at night by some prankster 'coon hunters. Talks between town dignitaries have broken down, so the only logical way of settling things left is a good ole feud.
