I got a chance to take in the Class 3A boys Dreher/Newberry match at Memorial Stadium tonight.

The Blue Devils edged the Bulldogs 2-1 in a penalty kick shootout, in which Dreher hit all five of their pk's to win the shootout 5-4.

After a scoreless and uneventful first half, Dreher opened the scoring at the 43:30 mark of the match. The Blue Devils turned away several scoring opportunites by the Bulldogs in the second stanza, but Newberry got the equaliser with just 1:30 left in the match.

The teams battled to a pair of scoreless overtime periods. In the PK Shootout, Newberry was up first and hit their first four shots by #8, #2, #16, #7, but #11's attempt was saved by the Dreher keeper. For Dreher, #22, #12, #9, #16, and #20 all hit their PKs.

The win improves Dreher to 4-4 overall and 2-0 in Region 5-3A, while the loss was the first for the #8 Bulldogs and drops their record to 6-1 and 0-1. The Blue Devils will continue region play on Thursday at White Knoll and will then host #2 D.W. Daniel on Friday. Newberry will take on Strom Thurmond in Edgefield on Friday.

Lugoff-Elgin won over White Knoll 6-2. White Knoll kept saying the whole time how we would be a push over. I know that #16 kept saying that over and over. I think their opinions have changed.

South Aiken beat North Augusta 4-1 at South Aiken. South Aiken is now 1-1 in the region.

what happend in the ji summerville game?? just another early season upset or what??

Blackville beat Columbia 5-0. By the way how in the heck did Blackville beat them 5-0 and Barnwell went into PK's? Honestly I think Blackville is better than Barnwell overall or Barnwell just had a bad night.

RNE beat Lancaster 4-3 in a very evenly matched game. The game was in Lancaster and the referees were against Lancaster, because one of them had past differences that is not related to soccer with several of Lancaster's key players. RNE came out fast and went up 3-1, but Lancaster fought back to make it 4-3, even though they lost two of their better players out of defense and midfield to double yellow cards. In all I think that there was probably 6 yellow card s given out against Lancaster in all. Two of RNE's goals came off obvious offsides plays that resulted in 1on1s with our keeper. Is there anything that can be done so that this Referee that we have differences with dosen't ref anymore of our games?
