Where's the Beef?
R-VII Talking about JI, WA, Wa is like beating a dead horse. Everyone know's their story.
R-II Most interesting (and unpredictable) playoff race in the upstate
R-V Top 3 are interchangable. DF right behind.
R-IV SA and Lex are entertaining.
R-III They've got FM. That's kinda cool.
R-VIII #11 & #13
R-I Only one team ranked all year and region race isn't even close (see Wren High School)
R-VI They try real hard (I pray this comment doesn't come back and bite me in the butt one day)

Region V is my choice for the best. Not because of any power teams, just because they will have a 5th place team sitting at home during the playoffs that could give just about every other team in it a good game. Five teams from Region V have been ranked at one point in time this year.
Region V - Five good teams Region II - Four good teams Region VII - Three great teams
How much greatness does it take to outweigh goodness? The beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
P.S. Watch out for Irmo, an experienced and well-coached team that seems to be playing very well right now!

Very interesting argument. The old argument, quality or quantity?

In the end, with only 1 left standing, it's definitely quality.

Bear,
I agree with you if you are talking about where the champ comes from. However, I think that R1C was talking about overall Region to Region comparisons. If I follow what it appears your logic is - Fort Mill wins the State Championship, then Region III is the best Region??? You would probably find it tough to gain any agreement with that on this board.

I had to edit my post b/c I you said my exact words. The easiest way to do it would be to line up 1 v 1, 2 v 2, 3 v 3, 4 v 4, and so on to get a more accurate reading.

I am not asking this question from a position of knowledge...but, how did The Taco Cup work out when you do the Region to Region comparisons?
You would probably have to throw out the teams (for comparison purposes) that were the only invite from their Region, as that would probably skew the reults to that particular Region without a significant sample.
I know, I know...basketball, injuries, other commitments, etc...also skewing the results. But it looks like R1C needs something to do, and this is my favorite subject to babble on about today. I mean, Chapindad should feel good that we haven't asked him to give us a recap of their last game. (I hope Katie is OK?)

deahler,
I venture over here because normally the threads have more meat to them, and are more enlightening, but after reading Fergie's eloquent, dominated but lost, key players out, refs were awful, followed by an eloquent rebuttal that you did it to us too, my image was shattered. That one is rehashed daily on the other side.
I really was just talking about the championship. When I read this, it sounds like some have already declared FM the champs. (of course if half of what Hurst says is true, they might be) This could be construed as trying to figure out which region champion is the best of the runners up.
You must understand, due to my work, I am relegated to the lower part of the state, further down the food chain by being west of the cooper, and further down yet by being in SCISA. So I really have no knowledge of the other parts of the state, and would have to defer to others.
Of course, in the end it will be clear which region produced the champion.

Region III could only offer up one entry to the Taco Cup.
An inter-regional clash which mimics the ACC / Big Ten basketball challenge might work (R1C mentions it above). Any variation featuring 4A teams from V, II & VII would be worth watching.
Bear....thanks for the endorsement.

Clearly Region 7 has the most dominant trio of teams in the state. I wouldn't want to be Goose Creek or Stratford, having to lace 'em up against those 3 every night.
I also agree that Region 5 is going to have a team sitting home that could be a Region Champ elsewhere. Right now, I would not agree that the top 3 are interchangeable. As much as it pains me to say, Irmo is in control. Their defeat of Richland Northeast earlier this week by a score of 3-0 was BIG. The next 3 (RNE, SV, DF) have a lot of region matches left, so who knows where it will shake out. I predict Irmo, RNE, SV and DF, in that order, with Ridge View being left home. That also creates a first round matchup of DF vs the #1 seed from Region 7, which I predict to be JI. The Ridge View girls will have a better time that night.
Based on strength of Region schedule, I am not prepared to award the state championship to Fort Mill. I know they've played all those NC teams, but there's no head-to-head comparisons. They may be there at the end, but region play will not prepare them for the playoffs.
I like James Island to win it all. Or, another team from Region 7.
