I heard an intersting rumor after the WA-Summerville game. Rumor had it that a very, very high level Wando girls' coach contacted a very, very high level Summerville coach to tell him what to do to beat West Ashley. I guess it didn't work, since WA won. Hope WA doesn't hear about this or they might decide to really get upset about the whole thing. Maybe it didnd't happen.

What would it matter what one coach told another ?

Is it illegal to give advice?

What do you plan to do about it?

You could give a lot of high school teams months to prepare for Bolt and company, but I doubt it would do much good.

p.s. Don't listen to me. It's the loss talking.

There’s nothing wrong with a little scouting. You have to get your information from somewhere. To not try to find some weakness to exploit would be suicide especially when facing a team of the caliber of WA. You should take it as a compliment. When people talk about your team that means that they are acknowledging your ability. When they scout your team that means that they are afraid. You should call the Spring Valley coach to get the low down on Wando. These things happen and they aren't that uncommon.

I know theirs always scouting. But it looks funny for one coach to give advice to another coach about how to beat a team in the game before the first coach has to play one of the two teams in playoffs. That doesn't sound right. Doesn't matter anyway.

I think scouting reports have been around long before any of us. Nothing wrong with it or it would be illegal. Thankfully, it did not matter.

Coaches let each other see their videos of teams they are going to play sometimes. Thats just the way it is. Some coaches are friends, and some coaches don't like other coaches, so they see to it that they team that they are playing has some good video to look over. It happens all the time!

What about videotaping? Tihs is not about Wando, or WA except that they were teh teams being taped earlier this year by a JI mom. Are their any restrictions on sneaking a videotape. Just wondring.

How do you "sneak" a video tape? Disguise oneself as a trash can? Kidnap the school mascot and take his place, only to implant a mini recorder in the left eye? Filming is filming is legal.

Yup! Unless you have the written permission of the SCHSL office and to not show the films for commercial use. Such a violation is in accordance with the copyright laws [Section B. 145-2]

You are all making fun of me. I tell you teh woman was sneaky looking. You know a sneaky looking face. At teh James Island games she yells and all but she just sat their next to a Wando mom and took videotape with the little camera hidden in her coat on a little tripod.

R1C,

Surely you must know who this is. You patronize many a website which uses video taken from under a trench coat!

She may be their again tonight with the little camera and treanchcoat, the JI spy lady, I mean. The last time WA played at Wando was when I saw her. Youll know her by the coat and the sneaky face. Stringy blond hair, too. Look if your there.

Just curious, but what is the difference between a "very, very high level" coach and the "head" coach?

I've read this thread and found some of the comments quite humorous, but did want to answer this question:
quote:
She had a treanch coat and a little bitty video camera. A skinny blond lady. She looked sneaky.
Per High School League rules, it is illegal for anyone other than the two teams playing to videotape a game. This is true in all team (head-to-head) sports.

As for scouting teams, it's part of the job and I don't know of a single coach that doesn't "inquire" or "scout" a future opponent.

"Anyone other than the two teams playing" indicates that all you parents and sports fans must put away your video cams and try to get decent footage of your child, grandchild, or friend on the field from your coach as only the "teams" are allowed to videotape.

Mr. Belligernt, I'm not sure their is any difference, but it doesnt matter now anyway. Wadno and S'vile both lost. Maybe the tips they gave each other were tricks that backfired.

I guess we will have to start asking the local TV stations not to film and run highlights of the games on the evening news. ;-)

That wasn't Channel 6 and Channel 9 at our game last night....it was WA and JI.

Or was it the Russians? Hmmmm.
