Christ Church 1 - Emerald 0 Respect and "heads up" to the Emerald girls who brought the best out of the CCES team who was lucky in the first half not to fall behind. The Emerald team is very well coached and their players battled hard but fair. CCES played strong disciplined defense and more aggressive counter-attacks in the second half. A high distance shot from perhaps 25 yards in the 77th minute landed in the upper left corner of the goal resulting in CCES' 1-0 lead. A great game to watch: Good refereeing, enthusiastic but reasonable fans on both sides, two technical and tactical sound teams. GO CAVS!

Eastside 1 Riverside 0
Eastside scored the lone goal in the 4th minute of the first 10 minute OT period and held on for long 16 minutes to gain the victory.
Congratulations to both teams on a hard fought game.

BC and Dreher didn't get to play tonight due to lightning and thunder. The game is rescheduled for May 11 @ 6:30 PM.
Congrats to Eastside....I hope BC gets to play you in the finals:)

Bozladyvp,
Good luck tomorrow night. Then our rude fans can insult each other in Columbia and let the girls play as we duke it out in the stands :-)

I'd also like to congratulate Eastside, but I hope Dreher gets to play them in the finals.

This BC/Dreher game was evenly matched after all..and could have gone either way. (Another few minutes and I'm certain it would have been tied again.} Both teams played well, you could tell the players knew each other and were aware of each others strengths. Ended with lots of hugs and good wishes for BC at the state playoffs.

You hustle, you win (most of the time). That's what BC did. BC went after the ball, Dreher waited on the ball. That was the difference. It was a close, evenly matched game.

The BC/Dreher game was a nail biter. Both teams were very aggressive and evenly matched. Kistler Ulmer was a beast...she is so strong and played a great game!
Dreher has really stepped up from the beginning of their season and should be really proud! The Temples did an AWESOME job as refs as well!

Congratulations to the Lady Bearcats on advancing to the Class AAA State Championship game ... Way to go girls!!!
Also, kudos are in order to Dreher Coach David Kleinfelder and his Lady Blue Devils! They had a great year and played a great match this afternoon at The Cage.
It's also good to see so many Congaree Rapid girls playing in the Lowerstate Championship -- well done girls -- way to represent!!!

Coach David Kleinfelder and Kistler Ulmer are to be congratulated. Kleinfelder for his excellent game plan and Kistler for her dogged determination and hustle. They very nearly won on B-C's home field.
Congratulations are also in order to the B-C girls and coaches. In a game where they did not display their best soccer, they played well enough to beat an inspired and determined Blue Devil team.
Congratulations to both teams and to all the region teams who showed well in the lower state playoffs. Well done!

Penquin fan: 'even though BC didn't play their best they still beat an inspired and determined team'...was a back-handed compliment to Dreher. Often teams don't appear to play their best when they play another talented team. Anyway, go BC and win State.

Kistler Ulmer is a beast...? That's kind of funny to say about one of the two smallest players on the team. I do admit that my daughter and I are big fans of Kistler though. She comes from a good pedigree of soccer players. Some extremely talented fresh(wo)men from Dreher, especially, Kistler, Ellison and Marie.
Kistler's our favorite though, she kind of has her own Yogi-isms, Kistler-isms I guess. During regular season games we heard her comment when the Ref nearly stopped play after Kistler took the ball, foot, knee, elbow, something in the stomach, "it's okay, I'm just out of air." Then once coming off the field asking for water she says "my throat tastes dry!" It's going to be fun watching her and her team mates grow together the next three years. I'd venture a guess we'll see them in a championship game at least once.

dhunter, that's very funny.
I nominate Ms. Kistler as the "poster girl" for the elimination of excessive heading drills in practice. (simply making a "funny" here, no disrespect to Ms. Kistler who I'm sure is a very nice young lady).

i will disagree with bozladyvp that the refs did an awesome job. the head ref was inconsistent all night, he called soft fouls on dreher all night while usally not calling them on bc. the lady side judge was also bad. she missed a couple offsides and out of bounds calls for both teams. When offsides is not called once all night something is wrong with the refs. bcs first goal was off a very questionable foul right after a similar foul was not called on BC.

Being unbiased with no allegience to either tema, I'd like to add that I thought the officiating was poor as well. My daughter even commented that it was bad and that the lady looked overwhelmed bythe level of the game. There were several calls that would be made against one team and two minutes later not called on the otehr. I think the better team won, but it was not a pretty game to watch with lots of fouls and just kickball going on. The champoinship will be good though and I'm pulling for BC since their from town.

It is so easy to see fouls from our seats in the stands....and yes, there were some calls that were questionable, however, the refs controlled the game. They did not let it get too physical, called soft fouls against both teams to extreme at times...and yes missed some out of bounds. BC did get have an offside, I think? With the pressure of this game and the level of play, they did much better than most of us could to be fair. Honestly, I couldn't run up and down the field once, and they all 3 ran a lot!

Kistler is small, but like Shakespeare said, she is fierce. I have watched her grow into quite a feisty player...knowing where to be at the right time...and she didn't hesitate for a second when she went into BC's sweeper and got the wind knocked out of her!

Bozladyvp,
See you, penguin, heise, and the rest of the gang tomorrow. Going to the early game? Keep those rain showers away. Aren't we all supposed to be in bed to rest for the activities tomorrow?

Bozlady: Yes and, unfortunately, one of those poor calls resulted in a free kick and goal for BC. So to say that the refs did an AWESOME job would certainly be inaccurate from a Dreher fan's perspective.
Peguin Fan: FYI,Dreher did not display its best soccer either but I give BC credit for that.
Aside from this, a few "well dones": Great free kick by Mallory Phillips. If Dreher had gotten the same call and one of our girls had made that kick, I would have been thrilled. Mallory Phillips also made some great plays defensively, too, running back and rescuing BC from some dangerous situations on more than one occasion. Latoya Dixon played a great game, too, for BC. As for Kistler, she displayed the heart and determination she has all season. Keep it up, Kistler! Although, it hurts to lose what turned out to be a winnable game, BC has certainly proven itself over the course of the season and is a deserving representative of the lower state. Congratultions to them and good luck.
