Thanks to Brian Myers of Byrnes HS for compiling the data and to Kenneth Massey of Virginia Tech and the Bowl Championship Series (College Football) for utilizing his algorithm and posting the results.

2006 Girls Massey Ratings

Brian, I attempted (and failed) at that last year and it takes a lot of time and brain numbing activity. Thanks from Region 1 for doing this so we can have something to think about this offseason.

I think it would have been intersting to see the Massey Ratings at the begining of playoffs. Given that the computer algorithm uses actual play among teams (and play among common opponents) to arrive at its final analysis you'd expect it to be more reflective of the final standings as playoffs went on and more top 10 (and eventually top 5) play took place. Thanks for taking the time to in put all the data.

ps: The final Massey rating does support my contention that West Ashley was the decided underdog in the state 4A Championship match.

Agree with you lpaf, WA was lucky to be on the same field with FM. And if FM's matches against the Charlotte teams were factored in, FM's strength of schedule would have been even higher!

Clay defeats Liston, Jets over the Colts, USA Hockey over the Russians and West Ashley over Fort Mill.

Who would have believed it!

ps: It was a strange and wonderful game, wasn't it?

Jsut think how much higher the FM team would haev been in the Massey power ratings if they actually had been abel to beat West Ahsley. Maybe nubmer one in the whole country.
