Any idea how the format for the Viking Cup will work this year? Four groups, eight teams per group. Will groups be split A/B, you play the three other teams on your side of the group and then the first place teams from A & B play to decide the group champion? Four group champions go to the semi-final and then the two winners go on to the final?

Seems like this tournament would also work if you had eight groups of four and ran it exactly like the World Cup. This way, two teams from the same group of four could actually meet again for the championship.

Eight groups of four, top two proceed...wouldn't that be 16 teams advancing? 16 to 8 to 4 to 2 to 1???

So that would be, oh lets see...3, 4, 5, 6, 7 games in two to three days. I think it would work, but perhaps time restraints wouldn't work. Maybe 1 winner per four team group to knock the games down to 6. Whatcha think?

Yeah, you're right. Seven games in 3 days would be too much. Letting only the group winners advance would knock it down to six games. At least this gives every team a legitimate shot.

Under what I think may be the current format (somebody in the know....jump in here please), you would have four groups of eight teams. Everyone plays three games within their group with the highest point totaler advancing. Problem is that each team will not play four teams within their own group meaning the winner could advance out as a result of the luck of the draw (dodging heavyweights). Good news is the teams meeting in the final will only have to play five games in three days.

I understand summerville has been replaced by AMHS.

Teams are guaranteed three games and it takes five to win so somehow there will be points awarded in the groups and two rounds of single elimination would be my guess.

I believe that the Viking Cup does group play and then the team with the most points wins. I do not think there is a true playoff system after the group stages.

I'm not sure if they use the more traditional "3 for a win, 1 for a tie and 0 for a loss" or the system that is same as above but adds "1 for a shutout and 1 for every goal up to three".

Last year was a points system with four groups of six. You played three games within your group (you did not play two of the teams in your group) and the team with the most points won the group and advanced to the semi-finals on Sunday.

The two teams that reached the finals played five games.

Actually, there is no point system this year. Each match will have a winner - win and you advance - lose and you are delegated to the losers bracket. Each side will still play 3 matches, but you need to go 3-0 to advance to the semifinals on Sunday.

Spring Valley HS Map

Soccer Map Key

Hello Coaches, etc. -

Posted is a PDF version of a map of Spring Valley HS and the church across the street. It shows all playing venues and parking lots, as well as how to access each.

I have also included an informative "key" that explains parking for cars and buses, how to access fields, where you will find gates, where to find restaurants, etc.

The primary reason for this new information is the construction of the new SVHS, which is beginning to occur on our campus. This eliminates access to certain parts of campus.

With the parking plan detailed in the attachments, we should have no problems -- there is lots of new space available.

Please assist by advising your bus drivers, parents, and other fans of the new situation. Feel free to email or pass out copies of the attachments.

Let me know if you have questions. Thanks!

See you all February 16th or 17th!

Does anyone know the reason as to why summerville was replaced? or is this just a rumor?
